swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

Couldn't agree more, although most people around here don't think what I do is science.

[Just going to glance over this guy's profile for a second. Lots of things Ed could comment on and probably will, but one thing catches his attention first.]

Frankenstein? You don't have a brother with a prosthetic hand or anything, do you?

That's a rather specific question.

[and odd. If they're talking losing limbs, that actually goes to Victor. But why would Edward think to ask THAT, of all things? Victor isn't aware of a rendition of his story where he or his brother have any prosthetic limbs]

There was a guy here, came to my brother and me for help because his hand wasn't working right. His name was Frankenstein, no first name or last name given. Just Frankenstein. Figured it didn't hurt to ask.

[They didn't look alike so it didn't make sense to think it was another version of the same person, but a relative could be believable, this place had a habit of bringing in siblings.]

You're looking for a way out besides the portal, I take it. None of us have found one yet.

That's strange. I haven't seen my brother in a long time, so he could've lost his hand.

I figured as much. There are many ways to cross lands, but I doubt any of them would work easily here.

Could just be a coincidence.

Yeah, like what? Where I've been it's always portals or gods. The god here is taking a pretty lengthy nap, so that leaves us with the portal. If you've got other suggestions I'm all ears.

It would be an incredibly strange coincidence, as I've had trouble with my arm in the past.

Depends on the realm. One uses a mirror, another prefers a tornado. Then there are the magic beans. Or you could travel by curse, though I wouldn't recommend that one.

That is strange. You weren't trying to bring back the dead, were you?

[If asked he's totally going to pass that off as a joke.]

Sounds like a fairy tale. I don't think I want to be traveling anywhere by tornado or curse.

And you'd have it exactly right there. A lot of people in town would be what you'd call "fairy tale characters".

Known for? How many people do you have to bring back to get a reputation like that? It's the sort of thing that's illegal where I'm from.

Fairy tales in one world, real in another? All right, I'll buy that.

It's not exactly common where I'm from, either. Thus gaining a reputation for doing it at all.

Hardly. I'm in the horror section.

Reputation like that gets you put in jail on my world.

I have to say, it’s pretty disappointing how common resurrecting the dead is in other lands. Just how many people do it in your land?

My story. Not to brag, but I’m the title character.

And that is a long explanation. The short version is, because I can revive the dead, and magic can’t.

It's. My. Story. And yes, someone in another world wrote a version of it, but it's not the same. If it helps, think of it in the vein of the theory of multiverse.
