I have faith in the Force, it's already helped me a great deal but I'm still new to it.

I need a teacher.

My last student wore me down. I'm too old to be taking on new students. I'm willing to teach what I can, but I can't be your Master.

There's only been one other who has offered to train me and I refused, he didn't take kindly to it.

He threw away his family for it. [ She sounds bitter there but keeps it in check. ]

That is usually the case. The Dark Side only allows for power and nothing else.

He has power. He was training under Luke and he just threw all of it away. I want to hate him for what he's done but I know Han wouldn't want that...

He'd want his son to come back, but I think that's too late.

The Dark Side corrupts everything it touches. No doubt your Kylo Ren is in too deep to extract himself.

[ Like Maul. Like so many others. ]

[ She shakes her head. ] I don't think it's that...he's chasing a ghost. He wants to be as powerful as Darth Vader, and he's afraid he isn't living up to his potential.

If the Dark Side corrupted him fully, I don't think he would've let me live.

[jedies]

[ Does Obi-Wan want to know? Not really. ]

Living up to a Sith seems pointless. Not to mention, a very low chance of survival. There can only be two.

[ He shouldn't know..can't mess up the past, can we? ]

Very pointless, but it's what he wants.

What do you mean by "there can only be two" ?

The Rule of Two. As I said, the Dark Side is corruptible. The Sith were failing when there were too many of them. They were unable to delegate themselves. A Sith Lord named Darth Bane wiped them out and chose an apprentice.

He then made the rule. Only two Sith must exist. A Master and an Apprentice.

I don't think that was told to him. Or, of it was, he wanted to ignore it...[ Or worse, take her to Snoke. She didn't dare think about that. ]

Then he is not the Sith. A Dark-sider, most likely.

[ It would be nice to know the Sith were completely gone. But Obi-Wan knows the Sith do not die that easily. ]

How would you know if he truly was a Sith?

[jedies]

The rule tends to be tantamount in all things. There would be other things that give it away.

Such as not having a Master? Or something else?

If he isn't a Sith...maybe he can still be brought back.

Being a Sith or not isn't the issue. He has to want to come back. If he doesn't, then that's on him.

[ She looks away from him, pensive. ]

[ Then the idea of dragging him back to the Light is a pointless one. ]

[ Obi-Wan's expression softens. ]

It's all right to feel sympathy. Or even pity. The Dark Side is not an easy choice. But coming back to the Light isn't easy either. And it has to be made by them.

It seemed like an easy choice for him.

I feel sad for his mother and uncle...and his father. Hab thought his son could be saved. And I'm angry at Kylo Ren for throwing away his family.

[jedies]

Perhaps. I would not make such an assumption lightly though.

[ The Dark is always easier. But the Dark always takes more as well. Until there's nothing left. Obi-Wan has always been touched by the Light. He would always choose the Light. But he's been in enough Dark places to know. ]

I would be careful about anger. Anger can lead people down dangerous paths.

I'm angry I lost a friend and angry that Ren... [ No, don't argue. Obi/Wan knows more than her and she should take his advice. ]

I wouldn't have traded family for power.

[jedies]

No. But many would.

[ Obi-Wan runs a hand through his beard. ]

There's no point trying to understand his motivations without further information. You'll run yourself into circles that way.

No, there isn't. I haven't thought much about him until now..someone I'll have to eventually face. But not now.
