swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

Yes, in space. There's no better feeling than to hop into the cockpit and take off.

Is space travel possible in your world?

Yes, but... Not distant travel. We're still very centered on Earth.

What do you consider distant? Another moon? Planet? Star system?

[lockonstratos]

All of the above. I take it you can travel pretty far.

Depending upon the ship and how much fuel you have, you can. I only started traveling recently.

That sounds amazing. What prompted you to explore space?

[talentedscavenger]

I didn't have much of a choice at the time. It involved trying to find a rebel base...and running from people who wanted us dead.

[lockonstratos]

That's not so amazing. Glad you're safe. Being on the run isn't my idea of a good time.

[talentedscavenger]

Yeah, the parts that were dangerous and could've killed us were stressful, but looking back now it's...a bit funny.

What about you? What's your world like?

[lockonstratos]

I can imagine... the stress, not it being funny.

Hmm. My version of Earth is alright. It's good for some, but it's not so good for many. Conflicts and power struggles leave a lot of people in dire circumstances, but the people who aren't tend not to notice because it doesn't directly affect them. But innovation is great, we're working on colonizing space in the immediate vicinity around Earth. I hope someday in the future we'll explore the known universe.

I can't say if there's a planet named Earth in my world. There are bunch of different ones, and a lot of space is still yet unexplored.

Hopefully things get better for you and those in your world. Heading to a new place...it could be beneficial for a lot of people.

Some of my comrades are here. My brother, too. I lucked out on that.

That's good. I've heard people--families come here, and then...they separate, or go back to their homes.

Yes...and some of it is good and some of it is complicated.

[...Maybe they should start a club. The 'I was here before but don't remember being here' club. But, Rey has only told a few people of that, and she wasn't about to go telling someone else that.]

I won't pry, but if you need someone to talk to, I'm a pretty good listener.

[ He has a little experience with complicated situations. Case in point: rooming with his estranged brother. They really should start a club. ]

I don't want my problems to be a burden for others. But, I appreciate the offer.

It feels that way a lot when you care. You just don't want to be a bother to others, I get that. But I'm sure your friends want to help with whatever you're going through.

I know they would help, but it’s my...challenge to face. I’m not going to risk their lives or anything of that nature. It’s my mess to sort through.
