Some residents may remember that back in September, a love-drunk and confusion-spell-addled newlywed mage from Gramarye Magic Research let loose some pretty little fairy lights that trapped people in the city in little invisible bubbles until they kissed (and any kind of kiss would do). Well, the same slightly-less-newlywed but no less romantically-inclined mage happens to really, really enjoy the winter season, and thinks it's totally romantic. That particular sentiment is pretty common in the Quarantine - while Hygge is the celebration of familial love, the residents of the Quarantine all agree that that family often includes partners and lovers. Besides that, the folklore of mistletoe as being representative of love and friendship is something that the Quarantine has in common with the universes many residents inhabit.

So, as the last week and a half of December rolls around, residents around the Quarantine will see the result of the resident romantic trying to share a bit of Hygge love - small, glowing sprigs of mistletoe will be floating around the Quarantine, ready to trap people up and make them share a bit of affection.

how it works

● Two or more characters walking under one of these glowing, floating sprigs will get stuck for one hour, trapped inside an invisible enclosure with an approximate three foot radius. The only options are to either wait out the hour, or to kiss! Characters will know they're meant to kiss, because part of the magic spell is the sudden and intense knowledge that they should kiss in order to break free. There is no compulsion to kiss, just the knowledge that that's how to get free. This time, instead of any kind of kiss working, there will be different types of kisses that will work to release the trapped residents depending on the color of mistleglow:

RED: MOUTH ● ORANGE: NECK ● YELLOW: CHEEK
GREEN: FOREHEAD ● BLUE: HAND ● VIOLET: BUTTERFLY

Trapped residents will not know what kind of kiss will work for each color and may have to experiment before finding the right one.

● Post up a top-level for your character with the types of kisses you're interested in threading out, and then go forth and have your character kiss (or refuse to kiss) others!
● This meme is for characters already accepted into the game to play with the mistleglow prompt from this month's test drive meme. If your character is not yet accepted into the game, please use the TDM post!
● This meme is GAME CANON, so any threads played out in this meme can be carried through into the actual canon of the game.
● Much like the TDM, threads on this meme can count for Activity Points, but not the monthly Activity Check.

[ For extra drama, these will all likely happen at night, as that's when this goth elf tends to emerge and slink through the streets. ]

(Rin's so goth in fact that Lucretia almost doesn't notice him slinking past her on the sidewalk until the sprig of mistletoe lurking above them kicks in and pulls her about face to face with him.)

Woah– (She stumbles, and almost falls, but something prevents her from doing that. An invisible barrier of some kind? She's leaning against it, and rights herself with a soft curse.)

[ Rin can't stop his scowl. He's been too agitated lately to keep his 'charming' front in full effect, and he's especially sore tonight, seeing all these affection traps littered about. He's mad at himself for not being more mindful. Usually he's always mindful. Obsessively so.

So he snaps back, real irritation flashing in his red eyes. ]

Existing. How about yourself?

[scholiast]

(Okay! Lucretia has really had it with getting stuck in bubbles with irritated men. Even though she knows it won't work she still cycles through her spell slots in frustration, attempting dispel magic, and then gives antimagic field another go.

The bubble remains solid as ever. This is pointless.)

Trying to get out of here.

[ He barks laughter at her efforts. What an egregious waste of magic! ]

Oh, do let me know when you get tired.

[scholiast]

(She is so close to casting true polymorph on him or something equally petty, but instead she folds her arms across herself, sizing him up. She shouldn't turn Taako's boyfriend into a bug. She shouldn't. Probably.)

I know you aren't familiar with magic, but casting two spells in a row isn't a particularly taxing activity.

[imperceptus]

[ He spreads his hands in mocking surrender. ]

Too right. I know nothing at all. So, please, continue. It's entertaining.

[scholiast]

(Lucretia sighs, and pinches the bridge of her nose. It's a real shame sleep only has a duration of a minute and that she can only cast it four times. If at any point during this next hour she needs four minutes of blissful silence, she'll consider it. Kissing will be the utmost last resort.)

I'm good, thanks.

[imperceptus]

[ Too bad he's immune to sleep! ]

We could also try just getting this over with, you know.

[scholiast]

(Lucretia pretends to consider this... then shakes her head.)

I'll wait.

(nup)

[imperceptus]

You're just no fun at all.

[ He folds his arms over his chest, shrugging. ]

What, I'm not pretty enough?

[ He jests. He's surely pretty enough. ]

[scholiast]

(Harold...)

Yep, it's that. You got me.

[imperceptus]

Now you're just being silly.

[ He sighs, takes a seat, and folds his arms behind his head. ]

But fine. Let's just sit in companionable silence, then.

[There are a few people that Taako can spend time with and not worrying about looking out for mistletoe, and Rin is on that list. So when the glowing plant floats overhead and traps them in a bubble, Taako just laughs.]

Oh god, this is terrible, what are we gonna do?

[He's not even trying to make that sound serious.]

[ Taako is the >only person Rin finds acceptable for these seasonal mines of forced cheer, so he's honestly significantly more relieved than he'll let on. He takes Taako's face in his hands, grinning lascivious. ]

We'll just have to run through everything. Real slow.

[spellslots]

[Had it been the red mistletoe, their problems would be solved almost immediately, because as soon as Rin has finished talking, Taako leans in for a soft kiss.]

Apparently purple is the blow job color, so...

[He made that up.]

[imperceptus]

[ Rin just laughs. ]

Is that so? Do you want to try it first, then, or should I?

[ He does a little hip thrust. ]

[spellslots]

[Oh, well, it's gonna be like that, is it?]

We should flip a coin, just to keep things fair, you know?

[He's not really leaving any time for an answer before he presses forward for another kiss, a slower one this time.

In an ideal world, Rin wouldn't wear so many fucking structured layers, because it makes it harder for Taako to just casually slide his hands under Rin's shirt, but by god he's going to try anyway.]

[imperceptus]

[ Taako's definitely finding himself up against at least three layers, but if he's deft enough, he can slip beneath them to find a good patch of knife-free skin. Rin looks halfway between amused and pleased, regardless, especially with another kiss coming into play.

He snaps his fingers behind Taako's ear, producing a copper coin as he does so. ]

Well, I've got one right here.

[ It's a trick coin, though. ]

[He's got a plus three to dexterity he can probably manage it. Either that or he runs into a knife, huffs, and tries for another spot.]

That better not be a trick coin, my fella.

[No one who bothers to learn that little trick with a coin does it to pull out real ones.]

What kind of man do you think I am?

[ He places the copper on his wrist; on one side is an insignia of an anchor; on the other side, stylized waves.

He sighs a little at the sensation of Taako's fingers, fluttering warm against his skin. But he soldiers on, murmuring. ]

Waves or anchors, my good man.

[spellslots]

I know exactly what kinda dude you are.

[Which is: the sort of dude who has a trick coin, but Taako isn't paying a whole lot of attention to the coin anyway, since he's busy kissing Rin's cheek, then the edge of his jaw, then the side of his throat. Just to cover all their bases.]

I'll be real with you, both outcomes are pretty great. [Never mind that he was the one who suggested a coin.] Anchors?

I am so very easy to read.

[ He lists forward a little, leaning in to this affection. He's almost glad when the bubbles don't break. It's nice to be loved on like this.

But he's still gonna flip the coin. He flicks it upwards, then catches it as it falls, clapping it down on his open palm.

Waves, naturally. ]

And also preternaturally lucky.

[Taako hums, half amused and half doubtful, because he knows, it's just that he doesn't really care. What he does care about is that his next target was going to be Rin's collarbone, except:]

I have a complaint. [said lightly, mildly, as he cheats and uses mage hand to undo the top button of Rin's shirt.] You wear too many fucking clothes.

[It's not that he doesn't like Rin's clothes (he does! a lot!) but occasionally they're very annoying.]

[imperceptus]

[ Aw, magic is cheating--at least Rin clearly thinks so, as he eyes the deft mage hand's work. ]

One must protect oneself, darling.

[ And have a place for all the knives. ]
