MISTLEGLOW: a kissing meme

Some residents may remember that back in September, a love-drunk and confusion-spell-addled newlywed mage from Gramarye Magic Research let loose some pretty little fairy lights that trapped people in the city in little invisible bubbles until they kissed (and any kind of kiss would do). Well, the same slightly-less-newlywed but no less romantically-inclined mage happens to really, really enjoy the winter season, and thinks it's totally romantic. That particular sentiment is pretty common in the Quarantine - while Hygge is the celebration of familial love, the residents of the Quarantine all agree that that family often includes partners and lovers. Besides that, the folklore of mistletoe as being representative of love and friendship is something that the Quarantine has in common with the universes many residents inhabit.

So, as the last week and a half of December rolls around, residents around the Quarantine will see the result of the resident romantic trying to share a bit of Hygge love - small, glowing sprigs of mistletoe will be floating around the Quarantine, ready to trap people up and make them share a bit of affection.

how it works

● Two or more characters walking under one of these glowing, floating sprigs will get stuck for one hour, trapped inside an invisible enclosure with an approximate three foot radius. The only options are to either wait out the hour, or to kiss! Characters will know they're meant to kiss, because part of the magic spell is the sudden and intense knowledge that they should kiss in order to break free. There is no compulsion to kiss, just the knowledge that that's how to get free. This time, instead of any kind of kiss working, there will be different types of kisses that will work to release the trapped residents depending on the color of mistleglow:

RED: MOUTH ● ORANGE: NECK ● YELLOW: CHEEK
GREEN: FOREHEAD ● BLUE: HAND ● VIOLET: BUTTERFLY

Trapped residents will not know what kind of kiss will work for each color and may have to experiment before finding the right one.

● Post up a top-level for your character with the types of kisses you're interested in threading out, and then go forth and have your character kiss (or refuse to kiss) others!
● This meme is for characters already accepted into the game to play with the mistleglow prompt from this month's test drive meme. If your character is not yet accepted into the game, please use the TDM post!
● This meme is GAME CANON, so any threads played out in this meme can be carried through into the actual canon of the game.
● Much like the TDM, threads on this meme can count for Activity Points, but not the monthly Activity Check.

[ Taako is the >only person Rin finds acceptable for these seasonal mines of forced cheer, so he's honestly significantly more relieved than he'll let on. He takes Taako's face in his hands, grinning lascivious. ]

We'll just have to run through everything. Real slow.

[Had it been the red mistletoe, their problems would be solved almost immediately, because as soon as Rin has finished talking, Taako leans in for a soft kiss.]

Apparently purple is the blow job color, so...

[He made that up.]

[ Rin just laughs. ]

Is that so? Do you want to try it first, then, or should I?

[ He does a little hip thrust. ]

[Oh, well, it's gonna be like that, is it?]

We should flip a coin, just to keep things fair, you know?

[He's not really leaving any time for an answer before he presses forward for another kiss, a slower one this time.

In an ideal world, Rin wouldn't wear so many fucking structured layers, because it makes it harder for Taako to just casually slide his hands under Rin's shirt, but by god he's going to try anyway.]

[ Taako's definitely finding himself up against at least three layers, but if he's deft enough, he can slip beneath them to find a good patch of knife-free skin. Rin looks halfway between amused and pleased, regardless, especially with another kiss coming into play.

He snaps his fingers behind Taako's ear, producing a copper coin as he does so. ]

Well, I've got one right here.

[ It's a trick coin, though. ]

[He's got a plus three to dexterity he can probably manage it. Either that or he runs into a knife, huffs, and tries for another spot.]

That better not be a trick coin, my fella.

[No one who bothers to learn that little trick with a coin does it to pull out real ones.]

What kind of man do you think I am?

[ He places the copper on his wrist; on one side is an insignia of an anchor; on the other side, stylized waves.

He sighs a little at the sensation of Taako's fingers, fluttering warm against his skin. But he soldiers on, murmuring. ]

Waves or anchors, my good man.

I know exactly what kinda dude you are.

[Which is: the sort of dude who has a trick coin, but Taako isn't paying a whole lot of attention to the coin anyway, since he's busy kissing Rin's cheek, then the edge of his jaw, then the side of his throat. Just to cover all their bases.]

I'll be real with you, both outcomes are pretty great. [Never mind that he was the one who suggested a coin.] Anchors?

I am so very easy to read.

[ He lists forward a little, leaning in to this affection. He's almost glad when the bubbles don't break. It's nice to be loved on like this.

But he's still gonna flip the coin. He flicks it upwards, then catches it as it falls, clapping it down on his open palm.

Waves, naturally. ]

And also preternaturally lucky.

[Taako hums, half amused and half doubtful, because he knows, it's just that he doesn't really care. What he does care about is that his next target was going to be Rin's collarbone, except:]

I have a complaint. [said lightly, mildly, as he cheats and uses mage hand to undo the top button of Rin's shirt.] You wear too many fucking clothes.

[It's not that he doesn't like Rin's clothes (he does! a lot!) but occasionally they're very annoying.]

[ Aw, magic is cheating--at least Rin clearly thinks so, as he eyes the deft mage hand's work. ]

One must protect oneself, darling.

[ And have a place for all the knives. ]

[He doesn't have enough hands, sue him.]

From what, hickeys? Cause that's the only thing they're protecting you from right now.

[ OK, well. ]

An admittedly persuasive argument. Here.

[ He directs the spectral hand to a particular knot on the back of his tunic's lacing. ]

Undo that one, and it'll all slip off.

[Please hold he has to look very taken aback briefly.]

There's been a cheat code for this shit the whole time and I'm only finding out now?

I am a master of disguise, you know. I have to have shortcuts.

[ For quick-changes! ]

That's your excuse and you're sticking to it?

[Why is he like this.]

[ He presses a kiss to Taako's forehead, and then turns his head so that they're just about cheek-to-cheek. ]

I'm a man of mystery, Taako. That means I must occasionally be mysterious.

[Oh, that's sweet; he's temporarily distracted from his goal and just presses his hands flat against the small of Rin's back to keep him close.]

Sorry, sorry, you're very mysterious. [With the tone of someone being indulgent.] I do wanna lodge a formal complaint about not having seen a single one of these disguises, though.

[ He pulls back slightly, offering a shrugging half-smile. ]

They've never been that useful here. The population's too small.

[ People would figure him out. ]

[That's the opposite of what he wanted.]

That depends on how good the disguise is, doesn't it? And listen, I knew a dude keeping two identities here, so that shit isn't impossible.

[Wait, he just realized there's a sex joke to be made here.]

Anyway, I didn't say anything about other people seeing these disguises.

[wink wonk]

[ He mostly kept those other identities to get something from people, and most folks here in the Quarantine don't have anything he wants. Neither money nor magic.

So, he just shrugs. ]

If it's not useful, I'm not going to expend the effort. Those potions take time, you know.

[ 'Potions'. ]

But I'm disguised right now, anyway.

[ He taps his cornflower eye. ]

[Taako hums, amused, and frames Rin's face in his hands so he can steal another kiss.]

I was talking about sexy roleplay, but you do you.

[He was making vague overtures at it for shits and giggles, same difference.]

Oh.

[ He probably should have picked up on that. Off his game from all this affection, maybe. He clears his throat, even as he lists forward to touch his nose to Taako's. ]

[He probably shouldn't find that as funny as he does.]
