swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

That's...tragic, it's true. Tell me, can anyone learn these little building block spells or must one be born with the talent?

Anyone can learn, provided you find someone to show you. Not really the kind of thing you can stumble onto yourself.

But they can be learned by anyone. One need not be born with the ability to tap into the essence of magic, as is the case with mages in my own world. We are born, and our abilities manifest and then we must learn to control them, but...it isn't something just anyone can do.

No, nothing like that. If it was a long-distinguished bloodline sort of thing, I certainly wouldn't have made the cut.

Ah, so you yourself are capable of magic? Why am I only just learning this, Peter?

We've discussed your interest in magic, it's true, but you've never mentioned you practiced.

In training. And with whom are you learning? Teaching oneself is rather dangerous.

Yeah no, I definitely got the danger part. It was mostly with my governor, back home. Here I've just been practicing what he already taught me.

Which is no way to expand your knowledge. If you'd care to demonstrate what it is you know, I may be able to adapt some techniques you could use.

Well no I mean, there is. You sort of find the right shape to make in your mind if that makes sense.
