swipes: a friendr meme

swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

Code to post your character's bio is in the textbox below.

Friendr base code is by photosynthesis.

● Post up a top-level for your character with their Friendr profile and then go around and swipe left or right on everyone else's!
● This meme is for characters already accepted into the game to window shop other characters' Friendrs while they're all gathered conveniently into one place.
● This meme is GAME CANON, so any threads played out in this meme can be carried through into the actual canon of the game.
● Since this meme is game canon, open, and only for characters in the game, threads here can be used for either Activity Points or the monthly Activity Check.

They were brought back from extinction through the miracle of genetics and science.

Tough to explain, I'm not a scientist. I just raised the raptors and took care of them.

Why would people bring them back?

They didn't try to eat you?

Scientific curiosity, I guess. Awing people. [ Also money because that's always a reason for practically everything, but how depressing is it to tell that to a kid. ]

A couple of them. Mostly when they were little. I had to be more careful about how exposed and vulnerable I was around them after they grew up. But I'm still in one piece, so I'd say it wasn't that bad.

[ The money part would have made more sense to Stan. ]

That's kind of dumb.

I guess that's kind of cool, though.

Yeah, it was pretty cool. Dangerous, but cool. I liked my job a lot.

I'm a zookeeper. Sticking close to my roots.

That's cool.

I like to go look at the birds.

I work with the birds a lot, training some of them. You might just spot me there sometime.

That'd be cool.

I never thought about birds getting trained for anything before.

Sure they are. Any animal can be trained. Besides, there are bird shows at the zoo, if they weren't trained they'd just fly away and not come back.

Oh. I didn't know about the bird shows. I don't think it'd be so bad if they flew away and didn't come back, though.

Sadly, it probably would be. Most of these animals are injured, or were born in captivity. They don't know how to survive elsewhere. It'd be great if we could just let them go randomly, but they probably would end up getting hurt or killed, or die of starvation, not knowing how to find food. There's a lot of work involved in getting an animal introduced in the wild. We don't just keep them at the zoo for fun.

As for the birds, honestly? If they didn't want to come back, they wouldn't. For most of them, the zoo's the only home they've ever known.

Really...? Mostly what I hear about zoos is that they're just there for people's entertainment and stuff.

But I'd never been to a zoo before I came here.

I didn't think of it like that, though.

Well— there is always the entertainment factor, that's true. My point is, it's not all black and white. Zoos aren't all bad, nor all good. They do want to make a profit too, but a huge part of that profit is used to maintain the zoo, pay its workers, and help with the recovery and potential reintroduction of wild animals.

There's also an educational component to it. Teaching people about wildlife, and raising awareness about endangered species, and the impact we often have on the environment. People are more inclined to help when they're well informed.
