swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

Geez. Okay, dragons and fairies aside, how did you not die of boredom? I mean, I assume you didn't have a lot of visitors dropping by.

That's always good. How've you been faring with the modern times?

We weren't aware we were trapped. It never felt that way. It's honestly hard to describe.

Oh, I get along well enough. My daughter helps, and my boyfriend's from much farther in the future, so in some ways I'm ahead.

You sound pretty settled in.

Six months now. How about you?

Two weeks, give or take. Fresh off the boat.

At least you came in at a good time. It’s been hectic the last few months, and it’s finally calmed down.

I've heard about it. Some of it, anyway. Something about a cult kidnapping people, that sort of thing.

Does it tend to get that crazy?

[jolting]

Well, different levels of crazy. Like before that, we had a virus that was putting people into comas. And before THAT, the river flooded and there were these water creatures coming up and attacking people.

And here I was thinking this might be a good opportunity for a nice long vacation.

Next month could be just as quiet. There's really no way to know until the shit actually hits the fan.

So basically, best to keep alert, just in case.

Has anyone ever died during these crises?

Yeah, a few of those cult guys died. I've been helping Doctor Goodsir with the autopsies.

Speaking of, you should definitely talk to him. He's into weird animals and I'm sure he could tell you all about the fauna of this place.
