swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

Friendr base code is by photosynthesis.
● Post up a top-level for your character with their Friendr profile and then go around and swipe left or right on everyone else's!
● This meme is for characters already accepted into the game to window shop other characters' Friendrs while they're all gathered conveniently into one place.
● This meme is GAME CANON, so any threads played out in this meme can be carried through into the actual canon of the game.
● Since this meme is game canon, open, and only for characters in the game, threads here can be used for either Activity Points or the monthly Activity Check.

» Seeking: Friends! (Hypothetically, is there a way to filter your profile from your kid/ward/protege, who will definitely make fun of you, before you admit that you might be in the market for more?)
» Preferences: For friends? I'm not picky! For totally hypothetical more-than-friends... People over 35.
» Interests: Music, the outdoors, and teaching myself about DIY home improvement because, damn it, I don't need to hire an electrician! (That's a joke. I would never denigrate the hard work of electricians.)
» Bio: I'm a dad and a high school history teacher, but since history's REALLY RELATIVE in a place like this, I just teach kids things at the magic school now.
Oh yeah and I'm also a bard. Ex-bard. Non-practicing bard? I guess I should mention that.

Now that we've covered that...in my world, bards are all spies and assassins. If that is also the case in your world, you're a very convincing spy. Bravo.

Seriously??
[ He's trying to picture that. Himself (or any fellow bard) as a spy. He's like, the worst liar in the world! It would be a total disaster. And let's not even get into assassinations. ]
Do they rock out with a lute to kill people? I have to know...
In my world, bards just make magic with music. I mean people might think we're shady (because of a VERY UNFAIR rep!!) but not like THAT kind of shady.

...no, they...use their talents to lull onlookers into a false sense of security.
Ah, I see. And what did your lot do to attain this reputation?
no subject
[ If he were so inclined! But he's not inclined towards such activities, so... ]
Nothing! It's just a bunch of lousy stereotypes. 'Too emotional,' 'not enough sense,' 'flashy,' 'unreliable,' 'attention seekers,' etc.
[ And he's... definitely lived up to the stereotype, a lot, in the past. But he likes to think he's better now that he's older and more or less wiser. ]

Lack of sense, perhaps. [ He's joking. ] You did purchase a cursed table without seeing it first.

[ It's kiiiiind of the truth? AND KIND OF A HUGE GLOSSING OVER OF THE TRUTH. ]
You should! Gramarye. It's a really cool place! I mean, I don't actually teach MAGIC there, but there are scholars and people who do. If you want to learn about the nitty gritty of magic here and in other worlds, you can always barge into their offices!
Or call them and make appointments first, I guess.

[Have fun explaining that to Miss Medieval Fantasy RPG here.]
excellent. i'm a mage myself, and i heard about it when i first came here, so i've been meaning to see it. and pfft. why warn them when i can surprise everyone and just march in? far more dramatic that way

[ BAM. He's getting used to talking to folks from Ye Olden Days! ]
True, there IS something to be said for a dramatic entrance...
So are mages and bards different from where you're from? In my world, we're like a particular subset of mage.
no subject
well consider me very interested now. yes they're different. mages are, well, mages. bards are those who entertain the nobility with conversation and music. and also spy. they have a patron who they spy on their rivals for
i take it your bards don't quite do that?

Also, I was told that you're the person to talk to if I need someone to teach me how to cook for myself. As for the filtering of the profile from a child, I think you're out of luck with this particular program.

[ He's not explaining it well, is he. AS TO THE REST... Jeff's reading over the cooking thing and blinking. Sure, he's a teacher, but he's definitely not a cook! Well, he's... functional in the kitchen, in the way that somebody who's cooked for a kid just about every day for the past 15 years is functional, but he's definitely not a cook.
tbh his daughter is better at it than he is. She's the foodie. ]
Wait who told you that?
[ The only person he even mentioned cooking to was... RICHARD. ]
I can SORT OF cook?? If you're looking for quick and easy stuff, I'm your guy!

But with magic.
Which can be a kind of storytelling!
