swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

Risky? No. "Risky" is deciding to pair vertically striped pants with a patterned top. This is something altogether different.

That isn't a stupid question unless you happen to be Tevene. Then I would wonder what cavern you'd crawled from. An Altus mage is upper class. Then you have the Laetans, the Soporati, the Liberati. Classes. It really means very little here, to be honest. Mages aren't common where I come from either, but that is only because magic is also misunderstood and marginalized accordingly in most of the known world. Magic is carried in the blood, and most places don't want more of it. Carefully breed out magic and what do you have? Fewer mages, of course.

So you're interested in inventing your own technology that can better contain even the portal?

That sounds familiar at least. Misunderstanding magic or misusing it. Most people where I'm from don't believe in magic now, but it wasn't exactly welcome in the past either. That's why I'd like to learn about it while I have the chance. It must be nice for you to have a place that's widely accepting of it too.

A novice one I guess. I've only had the chance to put together some crude machines while here, nothing special.

What's something you've made that you're most proud of?

my man, we should hang out and I can teach you some of the finer points of making robots. seriously.

hmmm, you know, this is gonna sound lame, but when I was a kid I had this mentor who had a lot of enemies, and I made these patrol robots to keep an eye on the perimeter, and they totally worked. they weren't the most technical or anything, but man, I was SO proud.
