Welcome to Riverview's test drive meme! Feel free to dip your toes in on the test drive meme to try out your character in the setting, play out a mission, and get samples for your application at the same time!

prompt i: the disappeared ones

Something strange has been happening in the city over the past few weeks, and it's starting to get kind of serious - people are disappearing. It started with a little girl whose parents are still convinced and terrified that she wandered off into the jungle to the north of the city, and things have only gone on from there. So far, a total of 10 children ranging in ages from five to their teens have gone missing, most last seen near one of the exits at the city walls or near where the river flows through the fences of the Inhabited City.

Today, it's reached the point where it's becoming a bit of an emergency. With so many sightings near the exits to the city, the government and Perimeter Guard have set up a joint search project, and are requesting volunteers to help scour the jungles in search of the missing kids. Any volunteers or members of the Perimeter Guard are offered a handout with images of the kids and will be forming a grid to search the entirety of the jungle. Which won't be easy, because it's not just a jungle out there - it's dangerous!

prompt ii: death from above

Normally, living inside the Inhabited City is a pretty safe bet. You can go day to day without running into a monster or risking any kind of danger requiring a fight. Generally, the tall, laser-fenced walls keep out anything particularly dangerous.

The problem with walls? They only go so high.

While usually assault from airborne monsters isn't a problem that's on the map, as residents who've been around for a while might remember from last year, there's a few weeks during late spring where a swarm of flying monsters not unlike feathery pterodactyls are migrating back to another part of the moon. They're only in the area for a couple of weeks, but during that time, residents can expect occasional attacks by swooping monsters if they should see easy prey. Usually, a good sturdy dark-colored umbrella is enough to keep them from seeing a potential victim or meal, but sometimes the attacks still happen. So the Perimeter Guard sends extra details, calling in all the reserves, to patrol the city and keep an eye out for citizens in distress. There's also a general call for anyone who's experienced at fighting to help protect their fellow citizens. Whether your character is being attacked or protecting someone else, be prepared - these monsters are quick and have very sharp teeth.

prompt iii: hot springs episode

It's been all over the news lately, the restoration of the old abandoned Amusement Park that was successfully cleared out and repowered, and is gearing up for a grand opening. However, thanks to a team led by Aecinos Ixocia and the technical expertise of Aoba Seragaki, there's another entertainment feature that was powered up and cleaned up at the same time, and is ready to open over the weekend - the Hot Springs!

Flyers and other advertising has been put up all around the city to alert city residents to the fact that the springs are opening, and expounding the various amenities and activities that the springs have to offer. Among the touted features are mineral hot spring pools of various temperatures ranging from cool to near-boiling, said to have healing qualities that moisturize and soothe the skin, as well as whisking away stress. There are a lot of testimonials to the fact that the springs have had an impact on chronic pain, headaches, and even temporary, acute illnesses.

If soaking in a hot tub isn't your thing, there are also lap pools, a wave pool, and even a few waterslides that are cleaned up and running smoothly - there's an easy and medium one for the less adventurous, but the other two slides are pretty harrowing! There's also a lazy river with inner tubes intended for couples or groups of friends to laze on and enjoy the warm spring weather. For those with something a little more frisky in mind, there are special tubes intended for romantic pairs or groups that go through a Tunnel of Love that lasts for 10 minutes and affords a pretty decent amount of rose-tinted privacy for lovers to enjoy.

prompt iv: the mud run

Ever heard of Tough Mudder, the Spartan Race, or Ninja Warrior? Well, something similar is brewing in Riverview. With the weather warming up, several companies in the city have contributed to the construction of a difficult obstacle course with three different levels of difficulty to make it challenging for people of all fitness levels. Featuring just about any obstacle you can think of, it tests participants' running, jumping, climbing, and other athletic prowess. It also tests participants' teamwork skills, since several of the obstacles can't be overcome without a little help from a friend or stranger.

But what about people with super powers? Isn't that an unfair advantage? Yep! It sure is! Any participants in the Mud Run are required to use a power dampener of some sort if they're super powered, so everyone is on the same level. Have fun with that!

prompt v: friendr/network

Whether your character is posting up a silly word game, trying to get hold of a friend, or putting out feelers for people to go out into the fray with, the network is going strong.

Alternately, an offer for a free app is popping up on new arrivals' devices - Friendr is a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app.

The journey to the sweet street is where we will be, pursuing our divine fate as long lost brothers on a mission to comprehend; a mission of story telling, a tale with funny, scary and.. romantic. circumstances. Behold! Karamatsu-niisan's Tale! It is nothing you have heard of before!

_{[ He says all of this while still pinned to the ground. Anytime he tries to move, he realizes he really can't. Flatly, with less vigor: ]}

Ah, Jyushimatsu. You should probably move.

[ Karamatsu totally lost him at divine fate, but it's the last sentence that has Jyushimatsu act very quickly.

As soon as Karamatsu points out that he should move, Jyushimatsu is already on his feet, one split second passing between the request and his current position. If Karamatsu didn't mention food, he probably wouldn't have listened. ]

Hai! Now hurry up and get me food!

[ What a demanding baby ]

_{[ Jyushimatsu is such a simple and yet complex creature all wrapped into one. Karamatsu, by now, has figured out what he can do to, well.. not exactly manipulate him, but motivate him in a way he'd like. Little bribery, things that Karamatsu also takes joy in. He also likes ice cream even if though he constantly freezes himself with it.

On his feet he follows, though he wrinkles his nose in disgust as he feels the mud on his face and his clothes finally. Ugh. The happiness of seeing Jyushimatsu has worn off enough for reality to sink in, and yeah, he hopes nobody notices how messy he looks. ]}

However, I'm afraid we may have to take a detour and rinse up. Nothing would be worse than getting mud in our ice cream, am I right?

[ He stops and rapidly shifts his eyes between himself and Karamatsu, multiple times. They're completely fine eating ice cream like this, aren't they? What's a little mud on them gonna do?

What kind of detour, even? He'd like to hurry things up, grab Karamatsu and get there his own way, but he doesn't even know the direction for anything in Riverview. He stumbled on this obstacle course totally by chance. ]

Ehhhh? Where are we going then?

[ Tilts his head like a confused puppy. ]

Ideally, I would like to go home and properly shower, get a change of clothes while I am at it since there is mud all over me. Oh no, so much mud! I do not understand why, I was extremely careful here.
_{[ He gives Jyushimatsu a look, non-threatening but at least annoyed. His expression softens slightly almost instantly, however. He really can't stay mad about this, not with finally having his little brother back. ]}

Though, I have this funny feeling you would be against that. Are you against that, Jyushimatsu? If so, a pit stop at the public restroom is all we'll need.
_{[ He starts heading that direction anyway before Jyushimatsu can even respond. ]}

[ The hint of annoyance doesn't escape Jyushimatsu and he blinks in rapidfire at that expression and the way he's being scolded, plus the fact he's not even waiting for Jyushimatsu's reply before marching off to the public restroom. Something's off about Karamatsu that the fifth born can't understand at the moment because they've just met.

But, ice cream is on top of his prorities right now! So he obediently tails behind his older brother, setting complicated thoughts aside for until they can sit down and eat the dang food at last. ]

_{[ As he walks off he stops for a moment to glance over his shoulder. Oh man, Jyushimatsu fell suspiciously quiet. Karamatsu has a lot to catch up with when it comes to explaining things. He wonders if Jyushimatsu is also 25 years old like the rest of them or if there's some weird timeline shenanigans. Hm. He purses his lips slightly and makes a whistling noise like one would make to beckon a dog. ]}

Jyushimatsu.
_{[ Oh, he's opening an arm wide to him. You're supposed to go there right by his side. How nice. ]}

Hai!

[ Like the puppy he is, Jyushimatsu is easily beckoned by the call and trots towards Karamatsu. His mouth is covered by a sleeve, but there's still a smile shown behind it. He may think Karamatsu is acting a little odd, but the calling of his name makes him feel instantly better. Maybe it's just his imagination. How long has Karamatsu been in this place after all?

So he walks side by side with his brother now. ]

_{[ Now that Jyushimatsu is rightfully by his side, he'll sling that arm over his brother's shoulders, if not a bit roughly. Karamatsu's strength couldn't hold a candle to Jyushimatsu's, but he was definitely rougher when it came to friendly affection.
They'll walk like this off of the obstacle field, his heels clicking against the sidewalk once they reach it. ]}

My brother, how long do you think Karamatsu-niisan has been here?

[ He totally doesn't mind the rough affection! It makes him smile even wider, even. Curling his sleeves to his chest, Jyushimatsu mumbles over the question for a bit. ]

I dunno, Karamatsu-niisan doesn't look older or anything? A couple years maybe?

Not quite! Before I was here, I was actually somewhere else. Ah, I bet you were not expecting that, were you? A plot twist. I was there, in a space ship, for several months. I arrived here just over a year ago.

Would you believe that I have not seen you since? Ah! It is catastrophic to me to not seen the figure of my dear younger brother who has such a sweet face in so long. My heart, it aches so much when I think about I have not seen you or the rest of my family that is not here!
_{[ DRAMATIC. ]}

[ Weren't they in space before? It doesn't surprise him as much as it should. Being the resident of a wacky world as Akatsuka's creation desensitized him to plenty things.

Unnecessary dramatics aside, Jyushimatsu gives the second eldest a blank stare, which looks weird with the smile still on him. The impact of their meeting here is not as hard on him as it was for Karamatsu, so he can't empathize much. ]

What were you doing on a spaceship?

I was doing many things, you see. I was making friends, I was learning about space, I was.. doing my very best! But still, consequences happen, as Fate would have it, and I ended up in many dilemmas. Dilemmas where I could have perished. Oh, not the comedic kind of perishing as we so often go through.. permanently perish!

The space journey I went through was not kind to me.. and neither was it to Ichimatsu. Osomatsu-niisan showed up later, but here, he does not have those memories.

He is very fortunate to not remember such a place.

_{[ He exhales slowly. He doesn't like talking about the Eluvio, but it's important Jyushimatsu at least knows they were somewhere else first. ]}

Now then, you never showed up. When we arrived on the ship, we were 23. Not long after we arrived here, we turned 24. And now, because of the date, I supposed we are 25 now.
_{[ They missed their birthday being in a coma while Osomatsu was conscious, oops. ]}

[ Hmm, that sounds like such a crazy adventure to be in. Karamatsu is not shedding a good light on it either, despite the dramatic tone he's using here. Permanently perish, huh? That sounds like the worst nightmare for people like them whose deaths are always a slap on the wrist.

And besides, Ichimatsu was also there? It twists the story in a more unpleasant fashion. His immediate older brother went through so much, as well... Jyushimatsu feels a pang of guilt over the fact he wasn't there to support Ichimatsu, even though he couldn't possibly control whatever sent his three brothers on that spaceship.

His smile diminishes into a frown and he looks at the ground he's walking on, pensive. ]

It was that long ago...? And I saw you guys seconds before I got here... how strange.

Mm, yes. Strange it is! Strange that I would not see you until now. Everything is better now that you are here! It feels so long. Ah! I haven't seen Choromatsu or Todomatsu either. I hope they are okay. Hm.. maybe you can tell me. How are they? How about Mommy? I have missed her the very most!

[ There's a thought nagging him however, and he covers his mouth entirely with a sleeve, uncharacteristically serious. ]
