riverview test drive meme

Welcome to Riverview's test drive meme! Feel free to dip your toes in on the test drive meme to try out your character in the setting, play out a mission, and get samples for your application at the same time!

● There are currently 34 Character Slots available.
Reserves are currently CLOSED. Applications are currently OPEN and will close on June 7th at 10:00 pm EST.
● Providing all parties are amenable, threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon, as the plot in the prompts presented is game canon.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points, so long as all characters involved are accepted into the game.
● Threading on the TDM is intended for prospective new characters, so top-levels should only be posted by players of these characters. Since the events in the TDM are considered game canon, characters currently in the game are free to use the TDM prompts for logs and posts on the regular communities.

prompt i: the disappeared ones

Something strange has been happening in the city over the past few weeks, and it's starting to get kind of serious - people are disappearing. It started with a little girl whose parents are still convinced and terrified that she wandered off into the jungle to the north of the city, and things have only gone on from there. So far, a total of 10 children ranging in ages from five to their teens have gone missing, most last seen near one of the exits at the city walls or near where the river flows through the fences of the Inhabited City.

Today, it's reached the point where it's becoming a bit of an emergency. With so many sightings near the exits to the city, the government and Perimeter Guard have set up a joint search project, and are requesting volunteers to help scour the jungles in search of the missing kids. Any volunteers or members of the Perimeter Guard are offered a handout with images of the kids and will be forming a grid to search the entirety of the jungle. Which won't be easy, because it's not just a jungle out there - it's dangerous!

prompt ii: death from above

Normally, living inside the Inhabited City is a pretty safe bet. You can go day to day without running into a monster or risking any kind of danger requiring a fight. Generally, the tall, laser-fenced walls keep out anything particularly dangerous.

The problem with walls? They only go so high.

While usually assault from airborne monsters isn't a problem that's on the map, as residents who've been around for a while might remember from last year, there's a few weeks during late spring where a swarm of flying monsters not unlike feathery pterodactyls are migrating back to another part of the moon. They're only in the area for a couple of weeks, but during that time, residents can expect occasional attacks by swooping monsters if they should see easy prey. Usually, a good sturdy dark-colored umbrella is enough to keep them from seeing a potential victim or meal, but sometimes the attacks still happen. So the Perimeter Guard sends extra details, calling in all the reserves, to patrol the city and keep an eye out for citizens in distress. There's also a general call for anyone who's experienced at fighting to help protect their fellow citizens. Whether your character is being attacked or protecting someone else, be prepared - these monsters are quick and have very sharp teeth.

prompt iii: hot springs episode

It's been all over the news lately, the restoration of the old abandoned Amusement Park that was successfully cleared out and repowered, and is gearing up for a grand opening. However, thanks to a team led by Aecinos Ixocia and the technical expertise of Aoba Seragaki, there's another entertainment feature that was powered up and cleaned up at the same time, and is ready to open over the weekend - the Hot Springs!

Flyers and other advertising has been put up all around the city to alert city residents to the fact that the springs are opening, and expounding the various amenities and activities that the springs have to offer. Among the touted features are mineral hot spring pools of various temperatures ranging from cool to near-boiling, said to have healing qualities that moisturize and soothe the skin, as well as whisking away stress. There are a lot of testimonials to the fact that the springs have had an impact on chronic pain, headaches, and even temporary, acute illnesses.

If soaking in a hot tub isn't your thing, there are also lap pools, a wave pool, and even a few waterslides that are cleaned up and running smoothly - there's an easy and medium one for the less adventurous, but the other two slides are pretty harrowing! There's also a lazy river with inner tubes intended for couples or groups of friends to laze on and enjoy the warm spring weather. For those with something a little more frisky in mind, there are special tubes intended for romantic pairs or groups that go through a Tunnel of Love that lasts for 10 minutes and affords a pretty decent amount of rose-tinted privacy for lovers to enjoy.

prompt iv: the mud run

Ever heard of Tough Mudder, the Spartan Race, or Ninja Warrior? Well, something similar is brewing in Riverview. With the weather warming up, several companies in the city have contributed to the construction of a difficult obstacle course with three different levels of difficulty to make it challenging for people of all fitness levels. Featuring just about any obstacle you can think of, it tests participants' running, jumping, climbing, and other athletic prowess. It also tests participants' teamwork skills, since several of the obstacles can't be overcome without a little help from a friend or stranger.

But what about people with super powers? Isn't that an unfair advantage? Yep! It sure is! Any participants in the Mud Run are required to use a power dampener of some sort if they're super powered, so everyone is on the same level. Have fun with that!

prompt v: friendr/network

Whether your character is posting up a silly word game, trying to get hold of a friend, or putting out feelers for people to go out into the fray with, the network is going strong.

Alternately, an offer for a free app is popping up on new arrivals' devices - Friendr is a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app.

Code to post your character's bio is in the textbox below. An example of how it looks can be found here.

Friendr base code is by photosynthesis.
The code in the textbox is for the default color scheme, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

prompt vi: wildcard

Use the wildcard prompt to choose your own adventure and do whatever else you like in the setting!

[Oh thank god. Funnily enough, his first thought is oh thank god, Mr. Stark would know how to fix the knick in my suit. But then his brain catches up and he perks immediately under his mask, and while the smile isn't visible, it carries as easily as ever in his jovial and downright expected reply:]

Hey, Mr. Stark!

[He waves eagerly from the wall he's crawling around on.]

You're here, too?! This is crazy!

[He's barely ever left Queens, and now he's in another universe or something.

This is wild.

— Also look out, the bird creature is flying in for revenge.]
buildsomething: ([armor] hands up)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-05-21 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no kidding.

[There's a sort of wry acceptance in his tone, audible even though the helmet speakers. One short exchange, and he already knows that this is a. the right Peter and b. not the one who was here before. So there's a lot he's going to have to explain, and won't that be fun.

But for now, there's other stuff to focus on. Like the wannabe dinosaur making a run at him. Tony fires both repulsors at it this time, cranked up high enough that he should be able to put a hole through the thing, but apparently they're tougher than he thought. It does at least swerve off and put some space between them again, so that's something.]

You been here long?
madeupnames: suit (pic#12311175)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-05-21 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Hang on, hang on, he'll come help out! He swings in sharply from his position on the roof, kicking out a foot and sending the beast Tony had zapped flying even further off in a temporary tailspin.]

Oh no, I just got here, actually! Just got settled and everythING—

[Oop, the bird thing swatted him with its wing.

He's swinging again in no time, though, giving a thumbs up.]

I'm oookay!
buildsomething: (oh god)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-05-21 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Pretty much the only reason Tony isn't putting his head in his hands is that he needs his repulsors free in case the thing takes another dive. It doesn't stop him from sighing loudly, though.]

What have I told you about keeping distance?

[Okay, in that case it had been because he really hadn't wanted Peter directly in the line of fire, if things actually went bad. Though come to think of it, Peter hadn't listened then, either.]
madeupnames: <user name=touchstoned> (pic#12281850)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-05-21 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Distance-schmistance, I've totally got this all under control!

[He was almost an Avenger! Give him more credit, gosh! And on top of that,tHe's totally got an idea, bossman; read 'em and weep, as he shoots his webbing into the feathers of the creature's wings. The newfound weight and unstable sticking of its feathers sends it into an awkwardly entangling tailspin —

Oh, wait, he doesn't want to kill the damn thing!]

Ollie-oop!

[He fires a couple of webs, landing on the roof of a building and pulling hard so that the birdthing is awkwardly trying to flap in its webby prison; it looks a lot like a spider who scored a killer meal. Peter holds up one finger at his iron mentor, determined to show his mad skillz.]

Point for Spider-Man!
buildsomething: ([armor] wrecked)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-05-22 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well okay, that is pretty effective, he has to admit. Tony slowly lowers down onto the roof next to him, though half his attention is still on the skies in case any more of those things decide to come along and play.]

Great. So what are you going to do with it now?

[Presumably they aren't just intending to leave it there, that seems a little oddly cruel even for weird attacking psuedo-dinosaur things.]
madeupnames: suit (pic#12311157)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-05-22 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't think that far ahead. Usually someone else carts the baddies away.

[What a predicament. But he's not one to be deterred!]

I could always play a game of toss. Like, swing, thwip,, swing, thwip!

...........

It'll build my hand-eye coordination.

[And is not just an excuse to play with the villain like he's the carrots on my dinner plate.]
buildsomething: ([armor] explosions)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-05-23 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Please do not play tetherball with with the nice flying predator.

[Today in sentences he never thought he'd say. Tony studies the webbed-up creature for a few moments, brain working through roughly ten different things. They could just kill it, bust considering Peter's nonlethal attempts to far, Tony suspects he might object. But they don't want to just leave it to attack someone else, either.]

How about we take it out over the wall and let it go? Maybe it will get the hint not to come back.

[Or at least learn not to attack brightly-colored people, which is also a decent lesson.]
madeupnames: <user name=touchstoned> (pic#12281876)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-05-24 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a plan to me!

... Do you want me to still play the game of toss while I carry him over there, or do you wanna do the carrying? [You can pretty much hear the overenthusiastic imp of a smile behind the mask. Sorry, Stark, you'll be doing all the lift work to avoid Peter slinging around a wrapped up dino-bird.]
buildsomething: ([armor] hands up)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-05-24 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a moment or two of silence, before Tony just holds a hand out.]

I'll carry it. You should probably focus on mapping out the city here, so you know where you're going.

[Nothing at all to do with not wanting Peter to play with the thing, of course not. Whatever he gets up to on his own time is his own business, but while Tony's here he probably needs to act like an actual adult.

God help both of them.]

madeupnames: suit (pic#12311157)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-05-25 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! This place is, like, scary big. It's a good thing I'm from New York or I'd freak out.

[It gives you a little perspective, when the place you're from is full of skyscrapers and cars and people, lots of people...! He's more than happy to pass along the big wrapped up creature, especially if Tony insists. And also load him up with some questions.]

How long have you been here, Mr. Stark?
buildsomething: ([hud] oh crap)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-05-25 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh. Almost a year now, jesus.

[It doesn't feel like it. Too much time spent just desperately trying to keep up with whatever new insanity has presented itself. If nothing else, Quarantine sure as hell keeps him busy. Sometimes, Tony even appreciates it.

He takes the mass of webbing, hefting it slightly to see how heavy it is. The creature inside thrashes weakly at the movement before giving up again and Tony just eyes it. So this is going to be awkward, but he can probably manage.]

I don't suppose you could make me a handle?
madeupnames: <user name=touchstoned> (pic#12281877)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-05-26 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
What?!

[He's making you a handle as he does it, but what?!]

No way! I literally just saw you upstate — I mean, after what happened with the plane, and then you were showing me the suit, and — and there's no way you've been gone for a year! Is this some kind of alien mumbo-jumbo??
buildsomething: (hah)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-05-26 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[The exhale that Tony gives isn't quite a laugh, but it is definitely amused.]

Believe me, that's probably the least of the weird shit around here. Alternate universes, timeline weirdness. You were here before, and apparently you don't remember it. There are duplicates of people. You just kind of get used to it.

[Or at least it gives you bigger things to worry about.]
madeupnames: <user name=recadreuse> (pic#12281776)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-05-28 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, that's freaking insane! I was really... Jeez!

[He's over here just BESIDE HIMSELF.]

... I didn't make any enemies I should know about, right?

[Important thing to ask first, mkay.]
buildsomething: ([hud] oh crap)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-05-28 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That happen a lot?

[Dry, so dry. He turns a little to give Peter a look, even if he can't really see it.]

No, you're fine. Most people here are at least trying to be more chill anyway.

[Loki's been friendly. Sort of. Who knew.]

But yeah, you'll see a lot of crazy things. I wasn't kidding about the alternative universes, there's another version of me around here somewhere.
madeupnames: <user name=recadreuse> (pic#12281762)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-05-28 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly in high school, and never the bank-robbing, people-stabbing kind.

[Look, he answered it honestly! Which is a problem of his.

But he hops and crawls and generally looks like a giant concerning bug-man on the rooftops. Let it be known, being bit by a radioactive spider really does turn you into a spiderboy. Sometimes Peter has dreams where he's got eight legs and May's hitting him with a newspaper.

Also, he's in awe for a moment, mumbling mostly to himself:]

Two Tony Starks in one place? You guys must argue a lot...
buildsomething: ([armor] flight)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-05-29 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Not as much as you'd think.

[Tony takes off slowly after him, in part because of the ridiculous webbing ball he's carrying, but mostly to keep an eye on Peter. Not that he doesn't think the kid can handle himself fine in the city, but those not-bird things move deceptively fast.]

There's a fair few other duplicates, too. You'll probably run into them at some point.
madeupnames: (Default)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-05-29 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Roger that! Man, it's like that movie, The Invasion. But, like, nobody's an alien.

Okay, maybe not like The Invasion, but.

[He's half-rambling to himself as he goes, though he's good enough to focus a bit more.]

How does anyone know who they're talking about? Do they just add an A and B to the end of your names? And are you guys super alike, or is it like a bizarro thing where they're polar opposites? Oh! Does anyone have any evil twins, like, mustache-twirling style-?
buildsomething: ([hud] oh crap)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-05-30 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[He waits mostly patiently for the babbling to die down. Or at least to pause long enough for Tony to get a word in edgewise.]

We're not exactly alike. None of them are, so far as I can tell. Similar, but you can tell the difference. No evil twins.

[The mustache twirling, that might be something else. But that's a conversation for another time.]

Most folks tend to come up with nicknames for all the doubles. Just to make it a little easier.

[And Tony just very nicely pretends he doesn't know they all call him the old one.]
madeupnames: suit (pic#12326433)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-05-30 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[The whites of his spider suit grow wider in wonder; good job programming that, by the way, really encapsulates the doe-eyed kid under there. His mind is working fifty miles an hour, coming up with all sorts of ridiculous images.]

Do I — Do I have a mustached twin?
buildsomething: (armored intent)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-06-01 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
No twins, mustached or otherwise.

[Not now, anyway. But he figures he can give Peter a little time to settle in before he drops that one on him.]

Oh, by the way. Some of those alternates? They might know who you are. Or their version of you, anyway.
madeupnames: <user name=recadreuse> (pic#12281758)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-06-01 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh. He goes quiet for a moment.]

You mean, like... they know about — Peter Parker? That kinda' know?

[It's a little scary, because, y'know. He still worries about getting May into any trouble here, because of him. And what he does. It's the biggest source of anxiety when it comes to anything going wrong — Aunt May cannot get involved, like, ever. As in people knowing she's related to Spider-Man. As in people kidnapping her to use against Spider-Man. Okay, chill, Pete! These alternates are all pals, yeah??]
buildsomething: (my work)

[personal profile] buildsomething 2018-06-03 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
That, yes.

[He might sound just a little apologetic, filtered through the helmet and all. But it's better for Peter to know now, rather than getting blindsided by it later.]

They can probably be circumspect, if you ask. I get the feeling a lot of them do the masked identities thing more than we ever did back home.

[Well. Some of them had never bothered, anyway.]
madeupnames: suit (pic#12311806)

[personal profile] madeupnames 2018-06-03 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Man... That's wild...

[He's a little breathless at the prospect. A bunch of other heroes know him. And not just the wiry little Spider-Man, but Peter Parker, too. That's crazy.]

I'm sure they're, uh. They're cool about it! It's just weird to feel like you accidentally missed half the movie. Metaphorically. Or you weren't supposed to even be in the movie.

[He hops, stops, gives thoughtful pause where he's standing sideways on a tall building.]

I don't know if that makes any sense, actually.

[Oooh, look! A skytram!

He hops on top of it and zooms proudly past Iron Man by just a smidge of speed.]
