swipes: a friendr meme
swipes: a friendr memeAny new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

Yes, exactly that. You learn to live with what you have, and sometimes even less than that. It's not like that now, but it sticks with you....you know?
[Like when she went to her first party with Poe and Finn. How she eyed the food Eddie had and thought it was too much, that it could go to waste. It was something she couldn't turn off when it kept her alive for so long.
There was a shrug of her shoulders.]
It also helps to read the instruction booklet, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. We can make something easy and I'll show you the recipes I have.
[Sitting still didn't come easy to either of them, did it? Better to keep busy and be active rather than stay still and do nothing.
The waitress took both of their orders and Rey was secretly pleased that some one else liked bacon too. Who didn't like it?! It was amazing.]
Thor? [The name sounded familiar, and sure enough she recalled a tall man with blonde hair who act the hot spun sugar and burned his mouth.] Yes, I know of him. Saw him eat snow once--it was a bit funny. [Because, well, it was. He didn't wait long enough for the candy to cool and ended up eating snow.]
My friends are here too--Poe and Finn. They're with the guard--and there's also a droid named BB-8. He's orange and white, you can't miss him I wasn't expecting any of them to come here.

[And being in the war had only emphasized everything he learned growing up. How to ration out food. How to made do with little in times were you and your troop were pinned down and couldn't get more supplies sent out.]
Everything back home is so different now from what it was when I was a kid. Growing up having nothing was something everyone had common. Now, people have a whole lot, way more then they need.
[But she probably doesn't want to hear the rest of "back in my day" complaints.]
Instruction booklet, right. That probably would be a big help. [He grins.] I'm hands-on and sometimes I can convince myself I know better. Usually I'm wrong.
He ate snow? [His face lights up in amusement and he tries not to laugh. He definitely has some new fodder to tease his friend with later.]
Poe and Finn. I'll have to keep an eye for them. Even after months I haven't managed to meet everyone on the guard yet. It seems to just keep growing. I think I've seen the droid around a few times though. [He tends to catch the eye.]

Mine was the same. No one had anything and you had to work hard for what little you received.
[Which made Rey wonder what Steve's like was like back on his planet--his world. Jakku was different than most planets considering its lack of natural life. Nothing but sand--a wasteland. However, there were times where some plants found a way to take root, reminding her that beauty could be found anywhere.]
I'm the same. I have to actually do something before it sinks in, though somethings...kind of come naturally. Sadly, cooking isn't one of them. [Like learning how to fight with a lightsaber, that came from listening to the Force.] When did you want to try your hand at it? [She could move things around--it wasn't like she had a lot of obligations outside of Cisco and the Guard.]
Yes...yes he did.. [Rey was trying not to laugh, but managed to let out a chuckle or two....or three times.] There was a festival or something going on while it was snowing, and someone was making these sugary treats. Thor took a bite of one after the sugar was thoroughly melted, and burned his tongue.
At least it's growing and no one has backed out of it. Better to have so many people than to be short staffed. [Especially if something big were to happen.
Her face lights up a little.]
He's very hard to miss. I think Tony is really impressed with him.

[He's endured multiple attempts of experimenting in the kitchen. One incident that will forever have Sam lurking over his shoulder every time he attempts to set foot inside of a kitchen. Especially Sam's kitchen.]
Whenever you have some free time on your hands. I've gone this long without, it's not like there's any rush.
[Steve doesn't bother restraining his laughter. He'll have to remember this story to pass onto the others. All in good fun, of course. The others, Thor included, all have plenty of embarrassing stories about him and vice versa.] He can be a little over zealous when it comes to sweets. [Or being patient in general.]
True. I guess I'm just used to working in smaller units these days. Ones where everyone knows everyone.
[He smiles.] I'm sure Tony would be. Have you ever met Dum-E?

There was a shrug of her shoulders.]
My schedule is flexible enough to change things around. Any free time I have...I try and fill. Running, or training....or reading. Anything. [Because she doesn't like to sit still. The only exception would be meditation.]
Can he? I wouldn't have guessed. [Sarcasm and spoken with a smile on her face.] Now I'm trying to picture him left alone in a candy shop. If he would buy the entire place out. [Or attempt to eat all of it in one go.]
I can't say I've done that--worked in a smaller unit. I mean.. [She pauses for a moment, thinking back when for a handful of hours it was just her and BB-8, then Finn got in the picture....then it was Han and Chewie...] I'm used to working on my own, but I've gotten used to being around others who are working towards the same goal. [To protect. To help and defend. Not solely in it for themselves.
And her smile grows a little more.]
Yes, I have. When I first got here, Tony and I spoke on the network...and I got to meet him, his suit, and Dum-E. It's almost like a droid, but not quite--although it is adorable.
[Yes, she likes droids and robots and technology. It's fun to her.]

[Exploration trips tend to be where he feels he's able to best use all his skills.]
He could probably eat the entire place out if he wanted to. [Thor's appetite is one to rival Steve's own.]
Smaller units have their benefits. But they're also more...personal. [At least that's been his experience, first with the Howling Commandos and then with the Avengers.]
He's a bit of a scatterbrain, but he does try his best. [Dum-E he means.]
