swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

I um. Have it. On my phone from home, I mean. Do you think it'd be possible to set something like that up here?

Well, I mean. There are actual pokemon here. You could just go catch one.

...okay. Fair, I guess. But out of all games, why that one?

Okay, I promise there's a method to the madness and it's not just because I spent a good chunk of my summer playing it. But it's a good way to be active and engage as a community in a pretty low-importance kind of way. It's a little like training wheels in that.

And also I have it on my phone so I figured that'd make it easier to do the whole tech thing, because you already would have access to the code.

I mean, I could, probably.

But here's the thing about AR, you need a really good sense of the actual reality first. So to even start, you'd need a very clear map of this place with landmarks noted. You'd need to make sure you could note deadzones in the places people probably shouldn't be going.

What I'm saying is, it's a bigger project than just rebuilding the game code.

Hmm. So couldn't even building it be helpful then? We can get people to volunteer to do mapping parties, and it can be used to help teach newbies where to go and where not to go. I mean, between all of the people who run here alone it should be pretty easy to do!
