swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

okay. better than it was at home. i'll be doing some work studies so that's something to look forward to.

tessering is a form of transportation where you make a wrinkle in time or space to make everything closer. it's hard to explain and i'm not very good at it yet.

That does sound fun. Hope they put you somewhere interesting.

Sounds amazing, and impressive that you can do it at all. I've seen all sorts of travel. Usually people poofing away in a cloud of smoke, but there was a boy here who shadow traveled.

It doesn't hurt you, does it? This tessering?

i'll probably try and start wherever my dad is working.

it only hurts when i fight where someone else is trying to take me. i'm getting better at it, though.

Makes sense. How'd you learn to do it, anyway?

i was taught by mrs. who, mrs. whatsit, and mrs. which so that i could find my father.

So is this a thing anyone can learn, or were you born with the ability and the three Mrs just helped you discover it?

I only ask because in every other case I've seen of people using a similar power to move from one place to another, it was the latter of the two.

i think anyone can learn it if they can find the right frequency, but the mrs definitely help.

[ And some people are far more adept at it than others. ]

So it works on a frequency. That's a new one... and incredibly fascinating. I may have to do some testing.
