swipes: a friendr meme
swipes: a friendr memeAny new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

had general training. several styles
[more like "every style" but that isn't exactly a thing a normal person can claim so...]

always done it
[glancing at Makoto's profile, letting her text to speech read it out...]
you do aikido
❔

[And now she uses it to punch Shadows in the face but she won't mention that part.]
Is that one of the ones you've tried?
no subject
yes. I know more hapkido though
[not to say that her aikido knowledge is lacking.]

[She can't help but wonder how people come to decide these things.]

grappling wasn't as important
and on the movements. not the
philosophies
[so aikido didn't have much to offer besides learning the kata in about ten minutes and moving on. it's about 80% true.]

[At least, she can understand that in a world more dangerous than hers, priority would go to what would actually keep people safe and so philosophies would be inclined to change or go ignored.]

but the movement is
[a pause as she tries to find the right words. she doesn't want to say that "style is a limit" because that's kind of insulting. why couldn't she be talking to a jeet kune do person they'd get it.]
its own philosophy
its own language
[oh Makoto it is adorable that you're giving her teachers that much credit.]

I suppose most martial arts are. Even if they seem similar, it's the details that make them what they are. Though I guess you'd know that better than I do.
[Cass is the one with experience in more than one, at least.]
