riverview: march test drive meme

riverview test drive meme

Welcome to Riverview's test drive meme! Feel free to dip your toes in on the test drive meme to try out your character in the setting, play out a mission, and get samples for your application at the same time!

● There are currently 19 Character Slots available.
Reserves will open on April 15 at 10:00 pm EST. Applications will be open from May 1-7.
● Providing all parties are amenable, threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon, as the plot in the prompts presented is game canon.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points, so long as all characters involved are accepted into the game.
● Threading on the TDM is intended for prospective new characters, so top-levels should only be posted by players of these characters. Since the events in the TDM are considered game canon, characters currently in the game are free to use the TDM prompts for logs and posts on the regular communities.

Feel free to use the prompts below or create your own scenario. The setting is built to be flexible, so feel free to make things up as you go.

prompt i: a river rising

Things have been pretty calm around the Quarantine for a month or two, since the behemoth herd was shut down - aside from a bit of emotional trauma brought on by the holograms that swarmed the city last month, everything's been pretty smooth sailing through Sampremi season. And of course, as anyone who's been in the Quarantine for more than a few months knows, nothing is ever that easy.

With spring rolling in and winter rolling out, there's been a lot of rain on the moon. Usually, that's not a really big problem, since the Quarantine historically doesn't have a lot of problems with flooding. This year, though, the water is rising exponentially, much faster than it has in almost the entire known history of the city. It starts to get noticeable around the 20th, with the water levels rising over a foot, and it keeps going faster and faster as the days move on. By the first of the month, the water has risen to flood out the two city blocks on either side of the river, forcing hundreds of people from their homes. The problem is even worse near the point that the river exits the city walls and starts winding its way into the Abandoned City, with the flood washing away many of the ramshackle buildings in the area and shorting out the laser fences in the area, leaving the city vulnerable to attack by water.

This month's mission? Form teams of explorers to head either up or down the river, braving the dangers from flooding and whatever monsters might be attracted to all the noise and panic, to try to find the source of the highly unusual flooding.

MOD NOTE: I will be playing around with the cause and fallout of the flooding throughout this and the next TDM. Feel free to have characters explore and find various options for what might be causing it, and if you have a good idea in a thread, send a link via PM to the mod account, and I'll see how many ideas I can weave into the solution!

prompt ii: you're a lizard, scary

Remember that bit in the last prompt about the monsters attracted by the noise and panic in the city, and also about the fences being compromised around where the river exits the city? Well, that turns out to be a really big problem throughout the end of March and until the flooding is resolved. Some new 'residents' will start showing up, crawling out of the river with scaly grins - giant crocodiles and carnivorous toads, and nasty giant bugs, oh my! Almost any amphibious, reptilian, bug, or water monster you can think of will be clambering up the banks of the river, scooting through the mud, and hunting anyone who ventures too close to their overflowing homes.

The city will be making a general call out to any fight-capable people who are willing to form temporary reserve units of the Perimeter Guard to help patrol the edges of the rising water and keep the monsters at bay. Join up with these, fight them on your own, or just keep away from the water. The choice is up to you.

prompt iii: disaster relief

It's not just fighters that can help with the disaster - there's also a citywide call out for volunteers to help out with disaster relief for the hundreds of people who have been displaced from their riverside homes. Whether you're commanding magic or science or just a hand to help out, your help will be more than welcome.

Volunteers can help gather and distribute clothing, non-perishable food, and other supplies to displaced residents; they can help cook for the large soup kitchens and buffet breakfasts; they can help knock together and furnish temporary shelter for victims. There is also a call for any residents who may have extra space in their homes to house victims of the disaster, so whether your character is displaced or offering a helping hand, there's plenty to do around the Quarantine.

prompt iv: sampremi street market

While the disaster isn't exactly conducive to celebration, most of the merchants participating in the Sampremi street market (some nsfw content at the link) are doing a philanthropic spin on their usual booths. Most of the booths are offering free food and household items or clothing to residents who have been displaced by the flooding, offering free games, and accepting donations to help support the victims. They've also cleared out space in the market for victims and volunteers to rest and recuperate.

prompt v: friendr/network

Whether your character is posting up a silly word game, trying to get hold of a friend, or putting out feelers for people to go out into the fray with, the network is going strong.

Alternately, an offer for a free app is popping up on new arrivals' devices - Friendr is a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app.

Code to post your character's bio is in the textbox below. An example of how it looks can be found here.

Friendr base code is by photosynthesis.
The code in the textbox is for the default color scheme, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

prompt vi: wildcard

Use the wildcard prompt to choose your own adventure and do whatever else you like in the setting!

"If you wanted me on the ground you could have just asked." She retorted just after the explosion settled and Remy moved off her. Not that Freya minded being pinned to the ground but it hadn't been as enjoyable as she imagined.

She rose to her feet and looked over the edge of the building to see if the creature was moving. "Damn I hope so." It looked like it was dead but looks could be deceiving. She'd have to still be careful.

"No time like the present to check." Freya ran forward and jump from the roof to the crocodiles head.

[She's out here fighting her demons more than anything else; ghosts, too. She has so many of them, these days. Even Alexei. She hasn't seen him since she was drawn back through the portal, and as much as she hates it, there's almost a sort of comfort in that. He had been trapped, and so was she.

Her eyes are sharp and bright as she moves through the the foliage, her blades splashing lowlight through the fog. Tony hovers overhead, but she doesn't comment on it. She might have before; something about taking care of herself. But now she just moves, silent and careful, focused.

At his words, her head tilts, and she sees it-- the scales almost shimmer. She moves, fast, sudden and her blades burn bright, hotter. The way she fights now is less overtly flashy, but there's something reckless in it, too. The way she lets those claws get awful close.]

It's nothing big. I just thought you might like it.

[She'd been a world away, then.

She hadn't really intended or planned on coming back, but here she was. She hands him the box, and actually smiles a little as she holds it out. It's just a slightly narrow green silk scarf, with a subtle pattern and slight fringe at the ends. The color of it reminded her of him, and she'd had the money then, to pick it up on sentiment.

She doesn't know if he'll like it, and she knows better than most that gifts don't heal wounds, but still. So she just watches him, and waits to see what he thinks.]

Yeah, it's a good way to pass the time. Especially outside when the weather's nice.

[ There was a rhythm to her life, a routine of sorts she'd settled into once her Dad had left. She'd grown more insular and reading was a great escape from the world around her for a little bit. Besides, it was a way to stay busy while avoiding her homework... So. There's that. ]

It has its ups and downs.

[ Yes, she got to do some pretty cool experiments at home and it was a thriving learning environment... But, it also came with a huge cost. ]

I think so too. Sometimes I like to read outside and bird watch in alternate shifts. What kind of books do you like to read?

My dad is a Rabbi. It's not nearly as interesting, probably.

[ It might be boring but the biggest cost is well the typical issues with having someone like that for a parent. ]

I'm glad.

[And she really is. She hadn't been sure. She'd picked it up on a whim, something that reminded her of him, and then after their meeting in the coffeeshop decided to give it to him. It had seemed... almost fitting, maybe. Something tangible.

She's staying, this time.]

[That makes sense, Lup...]

Oh fuck yeah I do! Gimmie!

[She reaches to grab the halberd, excited to feel it in her hands. It was a pretty badass weapon, after all. As a wizard, she didn't often get to play with giant death blades.]

What does the axe do?

[There's a pause and then Tony pops the faceplate open just for the sake of giving her the full force of his arched eyebrow.]

I didn't try to put him anywhere.

[There are only so many Wakandans he knows, it doesn't take a genius to make that connection.]

It turns out the German authorities take minor issue to massive amounts of property damage.

[Shuri's lips spread into an amused smile.]

Yes. You know my brother gets on my case about blending in.

[Some of the toys she makes are very conspicuous but most are meant to blend.]

I think he's gotten better when it comes to property damage. Unless you're counting cars. [She says this like the high speed chase incident hadn't also been her doing.]

He catches sight of her as she makes her way to the fire escape and follows her to the other side of the building from atop the roof on which he's perched. She looks familiar, and it doesn't take him long to realize who he's looking at, though she's a lot younger than Remy remembers her ever being to his knowledge.

Merde. He clears his throat, fairly confident she'll hear even over the deluge and the rising river's current.

"Ain't a great day t' be out practicin' your gymnastics, petite. Maybe you get back inside, eh?"

Remy grinned as she took the fight to the gator, as much out of his own enjoyment as anything else. He was particularly smug about the idea that she clearly enjoyed how much of a showoff he was, and she wouldn't trade it for the world, even if she also wouldn't admit it in front of God and everybody. Or well, she did, but it didn't seem to matter much that he was still around after everything, not from what he'd heard.

Still, there was no one else in the Quarantine, or the world really, that he felt safer with. The problem there was he didn't completely trust her either. People wondered why he kept himself marginally cut off from everyone else.

That. That was a big part of it. It seemed a toad going after Rogue from behind as she dealt with the big guy decided it was time for Remy to stop musing and get back in the fight. He'd grown up both in a swamp and just outside one, and after all this time, getting dirty was still one of his favorite things. Flooded city streets weren't exactly mud-soaked bayous, but he'd adapted his techniques over the years.

Vaulting up with his bo-staff to a better vantage point, projectiles already charged and aimed helped. That big toady never knew what hit it. "Nice work wit' that gator, chere. You done this before, eh?"

[His text doesn't come immediately, either. Mostly because he's trying to decide how petty he wants to be. Every time she'd abandoned him, every time he'd felt like she was never coming back only to roll back in like a tide...

...it was always over the same thing.

[She sighs, a large part of her really wishes they could somehow get past everything and be happy together, but there's so much baggage and she doesn't even know where to start with unpacking it, even in this new life.

He's right, of course, but if she admits that then she's left with more of the same arguments.
]

When was the last time you checked? Lot of people from home are from my past it seems.

I don't know what whack-a-mole is. [ jyn doesn't seem fussed by the admission either, like she does not feel like she's missing out or ignorant for not knowing what whack-a-mole is.

though admittedly she would love it so honestly it is a real loss. ]

Remy's lips curled into a smirk at her remark. "What's th' fun in that, eh?" He laughed as he didn't have time to do anything else before she was gone. Definitely something superhuman about her, but in his life, that was par for the course.

He was more cautious as he approached the side, but made his way down the wall adeptly, jumping the last several feet and landing effortlessly before striding closer.

"Dat croc's a mess, non?" He sounded cocky...and a little proud. "How's de Frizbee?"
luckyescape: (Default)

[personal profile] luckyescape 2018-04-09 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Freya had found her Frisbee and pried it free of the alligators skin. It looked like it pierced through his skin but the chemical didn't release. She dumped it out before raising to her feet and looked towards Remy as he began to make his way down the wall.

"Yup. Smell's bad too." She flicked her wrist and tossed the metal piece like it was an actual Frisbee. "Completely busted. On the plus side, we now have a metal Frisbee to play with while we run around the rain and the puddles."

She flashed Remy a smile as she jumped and slid down the creatures head to the area in front of Remy. "Whew, that was fun. Like a weird Disney ride."

i. a river rising

[Rose is no stranger to odd places with odd happenstances. She has chosen to be here, though, which is a nice change from previous odd happenstances. However long she's been here, it's been long enough that she feels compelled to help with the problems caused by the rivers rising. And, though she hasn't said it out loud, she also does sort of want to see a monster. Perhaps out of macabre curiosity; a need for nostalgic familiarity for a time when she was much better at fighting them.

It's been a few years since her last monster-encounter.

Her help comes in the form of magic. Big things? Blasted away. Need a scout? She is one-step, already floating above to scan the area. ]

When she turns to the 'new' face, she recognizes him right back — though Gambit isn't exactly the most subtle X-Men, all things considered. But her recognition is the same sort she'd felt when facing Rogue — a sort of hidden awe, a keen interest in the mutants that had painted the grim sliver of heroism within her, through those 'comics for bed wetters'. She will play it as carefully as she did rogue, though, and not offer an ounce of familiarity.

She does stop and give him her attention, at least.

"I will be fine. It's others that should worry."

Funny, this one's got a clear accent. The eyes are a little off. A little dark. Threre's no Sarah Kinney in this story — just a faceless mother used and discarded, never to be met. It's sad, really.
