swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

Hard rock, meditation, and destroying concrete... one of these things doesn't seem to fit.

That's not a bad thing.
I'm kind of new here, and I'm sorry if this isn't something I should ask, but what's a mutant? I mean, I know the basic definition of the word, though I have a feeling you mean something else.

[tanker]

I'm also fairly new. And I don't know what the definition is for you, but where I'm from, Mutants are a human sub-species, born with a mutated gene, called the x-gene. It gives us abilities - like powers.

That's cool! We definitely don't have your kind of mutants where I'm from.

[tanker]

what are mutants where you're from?

[lockonstratos]

Not as interesting as where you're from. Like if a cat has two tails, that's it.

although as far as we know, animals can't develop the x-gene, which is probably a blessing

Is it different for everyone who has it? I don't know much about genetics.

[tanker]

yeah, most of us have different powers. some are very similar, especially between family members. Me and my little brother, for example, have a very similar set of powers

But mutant powers are very varied. some are very inconsequential, and some are potentially world-destroying.

[lockonstratos]

That sounds rough. Are other people understanding about it?

[tanker]

humans? some do. some don't. some are intent on putting us all in detention centers. some just want to eradicate us and the 'threat' we pose.

but on our side, we have people who just want to live their lives, like me and mine, but we also have fringe groups that want to assert dominance over the human race.

there is right and wrong on both sides.

That sounds rough.

we all have our crosses to bear

is your world a peaceful one?

[lockonstratos]

In some places. Not so much in others.

[tanker]

I think there are parts of the world i' from that likes to think they're peaceful, but are always ready to fight anyway...

[lockonstratos]

That's sad, isn't it? It's the same where I'm from too. And then you have people who live in peaceful places who've got the luxury of ignoring the strife elsewhere because it doesn't directly affect them.

[tanker]

yeah, sounds similar. and there are some others who make their fortunes on the back of conflicts, and will do anything to keep them going.

humanity can be terrifying.

[lockonstratos]

It really can be. It sort of overshadows all the good stuff humanity's accomplished, too.

[tanker]

it's terrifying, isn't it

That's a good word for it.
