swipes: a friendr meme

Any new arrival to the city has seen the ad for a free app popping up on their devices, and anyone who's been around for a while probably has a profile and has used it a bit. It's almost universal in the city - Friendr, a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app. The default color scheme can be seen below, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

I mean you were here before. We pretty much arrived together back in June.

Are you sure you're not mistaking me for someone else? I have a twin who's here, too.

Lyle showed up after us, and he doesn't go by Lockon, not around here. Which means you have to be Neil.

How do you know my real name?

You guys are talking, right?

[He doesn't want to assume, things were tense in Purg and he's not sure what happened here before Lockon left. He doesn't enjoy breaking people's brains though so, cautious for the next text.]

How honest an answer do you want?

Yeah, we're talking.

[ He must know Lyle, too, but Lockon's not keen on sharing their private business. ]

What reason would you have to lie?

Some people would rather not hear the whole truth. I've been friends with Lyle since he got here, I could easily know your name from him.

[but Ed doesn't like to lie if he doesn't have to, so if Lockon isn't going to be asked to be spared the details, well. This might be the longest text Ed's ever sent.]

If you're talking you know he has a dog named Neil, I'm the one that gave it to him.

I know you guys travel through space in your world but I'm guessing this is your first trip around the multiverse. It's not mine, where I was before I knew you both. Lyle and I didn't really get along there but you and I were best friends for years, Allelujah too. You disappeared shortly after your birthday one year and I never saw you again. At least not until we got here, not that you remembered me, that's usually how it goes.

Neil belonged to Lyle on that world so I felt it was best to give him to his previous owner when he showed up here, too. He's not the only one that showed up, I have Veda, Kyrios, Kyrie and Dynames also.

You knew us well enough to name your pets after our tech??

More like I knew you all well enough to take them in after you left. Veda belonged to Lyle, but I'm under the impression he was Tieria's or Alle's first. There's a Tieria here but we don't know each other so I didn't offer the dog to him. Kyrios and Kyrie were Alle's, they're orange kittens. Dynames is a black kitten, I'm sure you can guess who she belonged to. When everyone left I wasn't going to just let them starve.

Wow. This must be really hard for you.

Not really, it's harder to adjust when you're first starting out but after a few years you almost get used to your friends disappearing and coming back with no recollection of you. I would say it's probably harder on everyone that hasn't dealt with it before.

I don't know. Losing anyone important is hard. Does that ever really get easier?

[alchemyfreak]

Maybe not. Losing anyone is hard but you learn to adapt, accept the nature of the place and hope they come back. Even if they don't remember you, you get a chance to rebuild that friendship again.

I guess that's a good way of looking at it.

When things start to feel hopeless all we can do is look at the positives.
