Finn has to give this one some thought. He can think of a couple of reasons off-hand, but they all tend to branch out from the same stem. ]
Because I don't want people to find out where I'm from. I don't wanna look like less of a person. [ Shrug. ] Hiding's easier than making something up.

[ It's weird sometimes, the things they have in common. ]
How come you're afraid people won't see you as a person?!

This is pretty much exactly where he'd put the full 100% into question dodging, except it fails him. Thanks meme. Finn settles for just... trying to rip the band-aid right off of this conversation. ]
The First Order raised me. My whole life. They're not looking to raise people. They don't even give us names.
[ Color him surprised if they ever try to say they do want people and not just easy cannon fodder tbh. ]
I'm scared of having that hang over my head no matter where I go or what kind of a person I really am. So I try to-- control how much people find out. If I can. Doesn't always work.

[ Well... that explained a lot. ]
Okay, I get it. People shouldn't judge you for stuff you had no control over, but... people do a lot of stuff they shouldn't. I don't blame you for not talking about it.
[ People can be cruel and harsh and FInn has every right to protect himself. ]
So, you got free and named yourself?

The First Order has a way of ruining anything it bleeds into association with, though. It's hard to push past feeling that. ]
Poe's the one who came up with it. I broke him out of a holding cell because I needed a pilot to escape: that was how we met. [ a vague flappy hand gesture that goes with giving a little extra context goes here. ] He asked what my name was. I gave him my designation, but he said he wouldn't use it, he was gonna call me Finn. Asked if that was okay. He's the first person who ever-- he made it a choice. I didn't have to let him call me that. I could say no.
[ And that's the story of how Poe Dameron could probably have anyone ride or die for him within five minutes, basically. Or the story of how easy it is for Finn to become ride or die for anyone within five minutes. ]
So I liked it. So I picked it instead of changing it. So... I'm Finn.
