[ It hurts to hear it, that she wanted him. It hurts because he knows now that, perhaps, he could have had her, if he hadn't given in to another, greater temptation.

The hurt flickers in his face, until he swallows it down, replaces it with anger. ]

Did you really want me? Darkness and all? Or did you want some idea of me, some Ben Solo who would only serve the Light?

[ And then, he spits out: ] I've never lied to you.

[The hurt on his face is easy for her to see and she has to stop herself from reaching out.]

I did! I wanted you, Darkness and all because the Darkness nor the Light can give you what you wanted. I wanted you, Ben Solo or Kylo Ren, whatever you wanted to call yourself, I wanted you. I wanted the man who knows loneliness as well as I do, and wanted something other than ruling.

[A tear falls down from her face.]

[ Ren's quiet, hearing all of that. He swallows, breath shaky, and his voice goes soft. ]

I would have burned the whole First Order down for you. I would have left it behind. [ Saying it, he surprises even himself. But it makes it easier, too, to get the rest out. He looks at Rey with renewed conviction. ] For you. Not the Rebellion.

I was never going to join you in that fight.

[ Rey is silent, shocked. She wants to say he’s lying but he can’t. Not right now. Instead, she feels another tear come down her face. He may not have joined the Rebellion, but he wouldn’t have been their enemy. ]

I didn’t know. You wanted to leave everything behind, but you weren’t willing to let me save my friends.

I’m sorry. [ The words are whispered as she takes a step towards him. ]

I’m sorry, Ben. [ A pause. ] My feelings for you haven’t changed.
