Some residents may remember that back in September, a love-drunk and confusion-spell-addled newlywed mage from Gramarye Magic Research let loose some pretty little fairy lights that trapped people in the city in little invisible bubbles until they kissed (and any kind of kiss would do). Well, the same slightly-less-newlywed but no less romantically-inclined mage happens to really, really enjoy the winter season, and thinks it's totally romantic. That particular sentiment is pretty common in the Quarantine - while Hygge is the celebration of familial love, the residents of the Quarantine all agree that that family often includes partners and lovers. Besides that, the folklore of mistletoe as being representative of love and friendship is something that the Quarantine has in common with the universes many residents inhabit.

So, as the last week and a half of December rolls around, residents around the Quarantine will see the result of the resident romantic trying to share a bit of Hygge love - small, glowing sprigs of mistletoe will be floating around the Quarantine, ready to trap people up and make them share a bit of affection.

how it works

● Two or more characters walking under one of these glowing, floating sprigs will get stuck for one hour, trapped inside an invisible enclosure with an approximate three foot radius. The only options are to either wait out the hour, or to kiss! Characters will know they're meant to kiss, because part of the magic spell is the sudden and intense knowledge that they should kiss in order to break free. There is no compulsion to kiss, just the knowledge that that's how to get free. This time, instead of any kind of kiss working, there will be different types of kisses that will work to release the trapped residents depending on the color of mistleglow:

RED: MOUTH ● ORANGE: NECK ● YELLOW: CHEEK
GREEN: FOREHEAD ● BLUE: HAND ● VIOLET: BUTTERFLY

Trapped residents will not know what kind of kiss will work for each color and may have to experiment before finding the right one.

● Post up a top-level for your character with the types of kisses you're interested in threading out, and then go forth and have your character kiss (or refuse to kiss) others!
● This meme is for characters already accepted into the game to play with the mistleglow prompt from this month's test drive meme. If your character is not yet accepted into the game, please use the TDM post!
● This meme is GAME CANON, so any threads played out in this meme can be carried through into the actual canon of the game.
● Much like the TDM, threads on this meme can count for Activity Points, but not the monthly Activity Check.

[It's a surprisingly tender gesture, and it makes Kara feel a little brave.]

[Since it led to her getting a kiss from Sif, and that's worth all the other drama, really.]

[ Sif huffs out an almost embarrassed little laugh, her gaze dropping momentarily. ]

You flatter me.

[It almost catches her off guard, that hint of embarrassment, because surely Sif shouldn't be surprised by a compliment.]

I never flatter, it's a waste of breath.

[Flattery implies something that isn't sincere.]

[ She is by that kind of compliment. ]

That is true.

[ Sif is pretty similar herself. ]

I am glad that my kiss was not displeasing. I have gone long without much practice.

[Were Sif anyone else, Kara would be making some overtures right now, but Sif is Sif, and these days sex is a distraction, for Kara, not something to be done with someone she genuinely respects.]

I thought they appreciated beauty, in Asgard. You should have thousands of suitors.

[But she can flirt a little. It's harmless, surely.]

[ She laughs at that, shaking her head. ]

Not at all.

[ In part because most people in Asgard know at this point that it would be a waste of time to try to court Sif. ]

But that is not a bad thing.

[Ah, well, that's different.]

If it is my lady's choice, then I shall not make war on Asgard for the insult to your beauty.

[ There might be a slightly pink tint to Sif's lovely cheeks right now. ]

My beauty, such as it is, is hardly worthy of such an effort.

[This really isn't her style at all but she's in too deep now. She lived through chivalry, she hasn't entirely forgotten how to compliment a lady.]

Shouldn't those who look upon you be the judge of that?

[Clearly Sif is prettier than she thinks she is.]

Not if their heads are so turned by my glorious countenance that they lose their judgment.

[ She's teasing, but really it's not unpleasant at all to be complimented like this. ]

You believe my judgement impaired?

[She feels sort of stupid and fluttery about this, like when she was a teenager learning how to flirt, but she doesn't think Sif will judge her for being a little foolish.]

[ There is no judgment at all coming from Sif, she's too busy enjoying herself. ]

It seems as if my kiss may have turned your head ever so slightly.

If any kiss could make me swoon, it would be yours, my lady.

[ Extremely gay. Sif is going to make it worse by a actually leaning in to give Kara another soft little kiss, her hands gently gripping the valkyrie's upper arms. ]

Thank you. For reminding me what this can be like.

[ Sweet, not painful. ]

[Oh.

There's a part of Kara that knows she shouldn't have done any of what she just did, but she's trying not to see the harm in it. It's just a kiss and some kind words, it's not anything else.]

You're welcome.

[She isn't entirely sure what Sif means, but that doesn't matter, really. She can hear the sincerity and she can return it.]

If something burdens you, I would do anything in my power to relieve you of it.

[That isn't empty flattery, she means every word.]

You have your own burdens to carry, sweet Kara. I would not add my own to them.

[ She doesn't know the other woman too well yet, but it doesn't take much for her to know that here is someone who like her has carried a lot of pain around for a long time. ]

[It wouldn't take much to deny that, to lie, but she finds herself unable to lie to Sif and reluctant to even try.

Kara gently takes one of Sif's hands, holding it between her own.]

I won't claim any more of your time, but know that I don't make these offers lightly.

[If Sif changes her mind, if she ever needs something from Kara, the offer is always there.]

Then I will not take it lightly should I call upon you.

[ Sif is actually feeling ever so slightly flustered now. She isn't used to being in this position. She is far more accustomed to being the one to offer her sword and her service, that is the part she knows how to play to the hilt.

Being the object of such chivalrous offers is... not unpleasant, but strange. More akin to what her earliest upbringing had tried to make her wish for before it became abundantly clear that she would accept nothing other than the life of a warrior. ]

But you must come to me as well, then, should there ever be something I can do to help you.

Of course.

[It's unlikely that Kara will, but she isn't going to get into that sort of discussion right now.

She lets out a breath, instead, as she releases Sif's hand.]

I'll see you again, my lady?

[She's a little flustered and kind of feeling A Lot of Emotions and maybe needs a lie down.]

Be assured that you will.

[ Well, if Kara doesn't want to ask for her help, Sif won't push. It's just not her way. Still, she had to offer. ]
