Some residents may remember that back in September, a love-drunk and confusion-spell-addled newlywed mage from Gramarye Magic Research let loose some pretty little fairy lights that trapped people in the city in little invisible bubbles until they kissed (and any kind of kiss would do). Well, the same slightly-less-newlywed but no less romantically-inclined mage happens to really, really enjoy the winter season, and thinks it's totally romantic. That particular sentiment is pretty common in the Quarantine - while Hygge is the celebration of familial love, the residents of the Quarantine all agree that that family often includes partners and lovers. Besides that, the folklore of mistletoe as being representative of love and friendship is something that the Quarantine has in common with the universes many residents inhabit.

So, as the last week and a half of December rolls around, residents around the Quarantine will see the result of the resident romantic trying to share a bit of Hygge love - small, glowing sprigs of mistletoe will be floating around the Quarantine, ready to trap people up and make them share a bit of affection.

how it works

● Two or more characters walking under one of these glowing, floating sprigs will get stuck for one hour, trapped inside an invisible enclosure with an approximate three foot radius. The only options are to either wait out the hour, or to kiss! Characters will know they're meant to kiss, because part of the magic spell is the sudden and intense knowledge that they should kiss in order to break free. There is no compulsion to kiss, just the knowledge that that's how to get free. This time, instead of any kind of kiss working, there will be different types of kisses that will work to release the trapped residents depending on the color of mistleglow:

RED: MOUTH ● ORANGE: NECK ● YELLOW: CHEEK
GREEN: FOREHEAD ● BLUE: HAND ● VIOLET: BUTTERFLY

Trapped residents will not know what kind of kiss will work for each color and may have to experiment before finding the right one.

● Post up a top-level for your character with the types of kisses you're interested in threading out, and then go forth and have your character kiss (or refuse to kiss) others!
● This meme is for characters already accepted into the game to play with the mistleglow prompt from this month's test drive meme. If your character is not yet accepted into the game, please use the TDM post!
● This meme is GAME CANON, so any threads played out in this meme can be carried through into the actual canon of the game.
● Much like the TDM, threads on this meme can count for Activity Points, but not the monthly Activity Check.

[He frowned up at the plant.]

It's glowing. Are they all different colors?

Yeah, we might as well just get it over with. Save us a wasted hour.

[Lyle looks up at it then tries to look and see he can spot others]

Looks like there are different colors.

Do you think that means something?

[That actually made Tieria nervous.]

After all, why else would there be different colors, yes?

Maybe? I'm not sure. What could it possibly mean?

[Decoration maybe?]

I am uncertain as well.

It could just be to make them look more appealing.

[He sighed a little.]

Alright. Shall we do this, then?

That's what I'm thinking. Just a different style so they don't all look the same.

Yeah, might as well.

[Lyle didn't really hesitate closing the distance to Tieria and leaning in closer. But he'd let Tieria move in to close the distance]

[Tieria did hesitate, suddenly nervous, but delaying it wasn't going to help their situation in the slightest, so... he closed the distance and planted a quick and chaste kiss right on Lyle's lips.]

[Lyle kissed him only that brief moment before pulling back. He glanced around at the barrier]

Did it work?

[Tieria attempted to take a careful step back and away from Lyle, but found himself still firmly stuck.]

No.

...

What else could there be to this?!

[Lyle watched as Tieria tried to back up and ran into the wall. Nope, not yet]

Well there are other ways to kiss someone. Hand, cheek... could that be what the color means? It's trying to tell us to do something?

[It seemed logical]

Mm... perhaps. We could try something else.

[BUT WHAT? Tieria was at a loss.]

Already then. Let's try something else.

[Lyle stepped in close to Tieria again. This time he was leaning in, aiming to give Tieria a kiss on the cheek]

[Tieria's initial reaction was to pull back and away. It was an automatic thing and not something he was really doing consciously. His eyes were a little wide in surprise at first, but then it clicked, and he nodded a bit, waiting for Lyle to do what needed to be done.]

[Geeze, you'd think Lyle was trying to kill him by giving him a kiss. That wasn't an unexpected reaction though...

Lyle kissed Tieria on the cheek, feeling very awkward with kissing his teammate. But he stepped back after a moment, reaching back to see if he could feel the barrier. Yep, he could]

Well, that wasn't it.

Mm. [Tieria frowned.]

What else, then?

[Sorry, Lyle. You were the one with the experience here.]

[Well then, got to try something else. Didn't want to go for the kissing on the neck option because if Tieria thought kissing on the cheek was weird he might punch Lyle for that one. So after a moment of thought, he held out his hand to Tieria]

Let me see your hand.

[Tieria stared at him for a second, and then complied, holding his hand out to Lyle.]

Alright.

[He did remember seeing something about hands being a thing.]

[Lyle took Tieria's hand in his and then bent down to kiss the back of Tieria's hand. Maybe this would work]

[Tieria's eyes widened a little, but he didn't jump or pull back, so that was a good sign, at least.

When Lyle released him, Tieria reached back and...]

It worked.

[He took a step away, then another. Sure enough. They were free.]

Yeah, it did. So its a good thing. Guess we should remember what that one means. In case it happens again.

[Tieria nodded in agreement. He was highly unlikely to forget.]

Yes. I will be sure to.

[He frowned a bit, and then looked away, almost apologetic for them being stuck like that.]

At least we have been released. However, I do not wish to be stuck again if I can avoid it. I will take my leave.

[He wasn't trying to be insulting... really. He just came across that way sometimes.]

Yeah, don't really want to do that again either.

[He's not really offended by that. That was more than a little awkward]
