Some residents may remember that back in September, a love-drunk and confusion-spell-addled newlywed mage from Gramarye Magic Research let loose some pretty little fairy lights that trapped people in the city in little invisible bubbles until they kissed (and any kind of kiss would do). Well, the same slightly-less-newlywed but no less romantically-inclined mage happens to really, really enjoy the winter season, and thinks it's totally romantic. That particular sentiment is pretty common in the Quarantine - while Hygge is the celebration of familial love, the residents of the Quarantine all agree that that family often includes partners and lovers. Besides that, the folklore of mistletoe as being representative of love and friendship is something that the Quarantine has in common with the universes many residents inhabit.

So, as the last week and a half of December rolls around, residents around the Quarantine will see the result of the resident romantic trying to share a bit of Hygge love - small, glowing sprigs of mistletoe will be floating around the Quarantine, ready to trap people up and make them share a bit of affection.

how it works

● Two or more characters walking under one of these glowing, floating sprigs will get stuck for one hour, trapped inside an invisible enclosure with an approximate three foot radius. The only options are to either wait out the hour, or to kiss! Characters will know they're meant to kiss, because part of the magic spell is the sudden and intense knowledge that they should kiss in order to break free. There is no compulsion to kiss, just the knowledge that that's how to get free. This time, instead of any kind of kiss working, there will be different types of kisses that will work to release the trapped residents depending on the color of mistleglow:

RED: MOUTH ● ORANGE: NECK ● YELLOW: CHEEK
GREEN: FOREHEAD ● BLUE: HAND ● VIOLET: BUTTERFLY

Trapped residents will not know what kind of kiss will work for each color and may have to experiment before finding the right one.

● Post up a top-level for your character with the types of kisses you're interested in threading out, and then go forth and have your character kiss (or refuse to kiss) others!
● This meme is for characters already accepted into the game to play with the mistleglow prompt from this month's test drive meme. If your character is not yet accepted into the game, please use the TDM post!
● This meme is GAME CANON, so any threads played out in this meme can be carried through into the actual canon of the game.
● Much like the TDM, threads on this meme can count for Activity Points, but not the monthly Activity Check.

[ Jason just stared at nothing for a second like he could see the wall. He couldn't he was just cursing the world mentally. ]

Fuck it. I'll be late to work again if we don't get out of here soon.

[ He leaned over and kissed her cheek. How backwards that was from the last kiss he'd placed on her skin.]

[ She honestly couldn't help the way her eyes practically rolled into the back of her head. ]

Wow, you could at least pretend to be happy you get to kiss me? Jeez.

[ And then he was doing just that, leaning over, and once that was done she reached out with her arm -

and it hit the invisible wall. ]

... Huh.

Oh, Hana of course I'm happy to kiss you. But, I am tired of getting chewed out for being late to work, namely after calling out for a week straight.

[ He spoke before sighing.]

Well fuck, lets try again. Something better.

[ He moved the arm with his drink around her and tipped her head up just a bit. Oddly avoiding her lips a second time, going for her neck, a slow kiss against the jugular, near her ear.]

[ She leveled a flat look at him this time, in return, not entirely convinced by his response - but when he pulled her in and tilted her head up she was a little bit off-guard and her eyes go wide when he leaned in, anticipating an actual kiss this time—

but then he went for her neck and that was honestly more than she would have expected, especially out in the middle of a sidewalk as they were... she gasped, but it was more out of sheer surprise than anything else. Also that tickled. ]

J— Jay?!

[ She. May be blushing a little. ]

...Did that work?

[ He liked neck kisses, it fit into his undead aesthetic very nicely. Pulling back he grinned, but kept his arm around her all the same, moving his arm back it collided with a small thump.]

Nope, any other ideas, Hana?

[ He hoped it just wanted them to kiss, cause like hell was he taking his pants off in this level of public... maybe in an alleyway.. but jeeze.]

[ Hana, apparently, also liked neck kisses. She sighed a little in relief when it was over, though, not really ready put all this in display out in public - and then it turned into frustration as she realized they were still stuck. ]

Oh, crap.

[ She rolled her eyes as she looked up at the mistletoe. It was glowing red, but she has no idea what that means, only that the other mistletoe around are glowing in other colors... ]

What about this?

[ Going up to her tippy toes, she kissed his forehead. ]

[ Jason rolled his eyes some. ]

For fucks sake. I'd try to shoot it but with our luck it would bounce and hit one of us or kill an innocent bystander.

[ The Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day....

When he realized what she was doing he tipped his head down some to meet her, shifting to kick the box without pulling away. He sighed a second before he moved both arms back around her. It was worth a shot, even if he worried it was to much... He leaned in to catch her lips finally. After everything they'd done, he finally kissed her on the lips, soft and chaste, something softer than would be expected of someone like him.]

[ Progress. If only Bruce could see you now, Jason Todd.

Hana could hear the thump from Jason kicking the barrier, cluing her into the fact that the forehead kiss hadn't worked. Well, there was always -

that.

Jason beat her to it, and Hana gave a slow blink or three when Jason closed the gap and kissed her on the lips. It did cross her mind how backwards they'd gone about all of this, considering this was their first kiss even when they'd already...

Her blinking eyes narrowed in another second or two. She expected the kiss to either be rough or get rough, but this was surprisingly... sweet? After a moment she pulled away, but only barely such that their lips were practically still brushing against each other when she said, ]

After all that game you talk, that's the kind of kiss you give me? Cute, Jason.

[ She always was a sassy one. Even though she was blushing a little. ]

[ He would still bitch and tell him to work harder. Least Jason figured as much. He'd never be good enough in old Daddy Warbats eyes.

Life with Jason Todd, he did a lot of things backwards, at least it protected him. AS strong as he projects himself he had a lot of emotional hangups and it hurt when he let people inside. Granted, Hana had already wormed her way into his heart awhile ago. She was one of his favorite friends.

His forehead rested against hers as he managed an almost coy smile. ]

Don't you deserve something like that after I gave you the flu?

[ He tried to play it off as he kicked his leg back and nothing.]

We broke the code! Red is romance, which I guess is better than blood. I didn't want to have to cut you. [ He joked as he pulled away. Humor was his natural response to things getting to serious. A side effect of being an old school Robin.]

[ Honestly, Jason was probably the kind of person that Hana usually wouldn't get along with, at least not how he was on the surface. He could be rude and dishonest and maybe disingenuous - but the more she'd gotten to know him over the last few months and especially after having seen his memories... she realized maybe the two of them were more similar than they thought. Both of them were hurting inside and covering it up, maybe in slightly different ways. It was why Jason was one of her favorite friends, too.

She gave a soft chuckle at his response, and her body loosened when it became apparent that they'd been freed of their brief confinement. She shook her head, too, at his joke and as he pulled away she knew he was deflecting to teeter away from any dangerous territory. She knew it because she would've done the same thing. At length, she just shook her head, smiling, and ran a hand through her hair to flip it. ]

Red is romance, and if you tried to cut me I would've dropped my mech on you.

[ She winked. ]

GG, Jay.

[ She was right though, he did try to play himself down to a level where no one would realize just how sharp he was, or how kind he could be. Even his best friends often were shocked when they broke through the shell he kept around him. A big heart got him buried under six feet in a pine box. He pushed everyone away to protect himself.

Even with the possibility of a romance all of its own he couldn't risk it. So he did what he did best, acted aloof and disengaged with stupid humor. ]

Who knows, maybe I'd like that. Sounds like a coma waiting to happen. I could use the sleep.

[ He teased, before reaching over and patted her on the head like a kid.]

I gotta jet, catch you later, Hana.

[ And he turned quickly to head off, things got to serious real quick for him.]
