● There are currently 13 Character Slots available.
Reserves are Open. Applications will be open from January 1st until January 7th.
● Providing all parties are amenable, threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon, as the plot in the prompts presented is game canon.
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points, so long as all characters involved are accepted into the game.
● Threading on the TDM is intended for prospective new characters, so top-levels should only be posted by players of these characters. Since the events in the TDM are considered game canon, characters currently in the game are free to use the TDM prompts for logs and posts on the regular communities.

prompt i: winter rescue

Going into the last week of December, the city experiences an abrupt and unexpected dump of snow - several feet of it, in fact. Usually, it wouldn't be a big deal, since most people and most exploration teams could just hole up and ride out the storm and snowdrifts. And that's what most of the city is doing.

Unfortunately, this is the week that some of the Perimeter Guard Cadets have decided to go on their Winter Expedition - a sort of camping trip slash exploration expedition into the Abandoned City just outside the walls of the Inner City. While the goal wasn't to get too far away from the walls, with the snow starting up in force, the groups of Cadets have gotten turned around in the inclement weather and are stuck outside the walls, unable to return to the safety of the Inner City.

A general call has gone out to anyone willing to brave the snow and storm to rescue groups of Cadets between the ages of 12 and 17 who are trapped outside the walls in their camps.

prompt ii: a flock of stargulls

During the last half of December, residents might start noticing the appearance of cute, trilling little birds with soulful eyes (very mild spoilers for the most recent Star Wars movie in the link) throughout the Quarantine. Perched on tree branches or the corners of awnings and eaves, they will keep multiplying in number until December 20th, when a positive swarm of them will come through the portal.

Welcome to the Quarantine, Porgs!

These little lovable birds (spoiler-free image) will be settling in to roost just about anywhere you can think of. Outside your window, inside your kitchen on top of your fridge, under your bed, or anywhere else. Whether residents consider them a nuisance or a potential new pet, they're bound to cause a stir. The Porgs will be out and about in the city until the end of December, when most of them will find their way back through the portal to whichever world they came from, though a little colony of them will remain in the City from now on. Porgs will be added along with domestic foxes and Pokémon as creatures that can be found or caught in the city as pets without the use of AP!

[Thanks to Sere for submitting this prompt as a mini-plot!]

prompt iii: mistleglow

Some residents may remember that back in September, a love-drunk and confusion-spell-addled newlywed mage from Gramarye Magic Research let loose some pretty little fairy lights that trapped people in the city in little invisible bubbles until they kissed (and any kind of kiss would do). Well, the same slightly-less-newlywed but no less romantically-inclined mage happens to really, really enjoy the winter season, and thinks it's totally romantic. That particular sentiment is pretty common in the Quarantine - while Hygge is the celebration of familial love, the residents of the Quarantine all agree that that family often includes partners and lovers. Besides that, the folklore of mistletoe as being representative of love and friendship is something that the Quarantine has in common with the universes many residents inhabit.

So, as the last week and a half of December rolls around, residents around the Quarantine will see the result of the resident romantic trying to share a bit of Hygge love - small, glowing sprigs of mistletoe will be floating around the Quarantine, ready to trap people up and make them share a bit of affection. But how does it work?

Two or more characters walking under one of these glowing, floating sprigs will get stuck for one hour, trapped inside an invisible enclosure with an approximate three foot radius. The only options are to either wait out the hour, or to kiss! Characters will know they're meant to kiss, because part of the magic spell is the sudden and intense knowledge that they should kiss in order to break free. There is no compulsion to kiss, just the knowledge that that's how to get free. This time, instead of any kind of kiss working, there will be different types of kisses that will work to release the trapped residents depending on the color of mistleglow:

RED: MOUTH ● ORANGE: NECK ● YELLOW: CHEEK
GREEN: FOREHEAD ● BLUE: HAND ● VIOLET: BUTTERFLY

Trapped residents will not know what kind of kiss will work for each color and may have to experiment before finding the right one.

prompt iv: snowed in

Remember those Hygge Cabins that the City set up all along the banks of the river? Little cabins with enough space for a small kitchen, a table to eat at, and a lounge area in front of a fireplace, meant to be shared in celebration of familial love and found family during Hygge? Well, the sudden onslaught of snow that trapped the Cadets outside the city are also serving to isolate people who are in and around the cabins.

With the river nearby, the heightened humidity in the area of the beaches where the cabins are set up, the snowfall is even heavier than it is throughout the rest of the city. Anyone who's down by the water will find themselves quickly driven out of the open and into one of these cabins, whether it's inhabited or not! Whether these weather refugees are sharing a cabin by choice, after having a lovely dinner together, or unwillingly, in the form of an intruder on someone else's holiday or by being driven into the same cabin with a stranger, they're going to be snowed in for a while!

prompt v: friendr/network

Whether your character is posting up a silly word game, trying to get hold of a friend, or putting out feelers for people to go out into the fray with, the network is going strong.

Alternately, an offer for a free app is popping up on new arrivals' devices - Friendr is a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app.

Code to post your character's bio is in the textbox below. An example of how it looks can be found here.

Friendr base code is by photosynthesis.
The code in the textbox is for the default color scheme, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.

prompt vi: wildcard

Use the wildcard prompt to choose your own adventure and do whatever else you like in the setting!

[the cabin by Izabela Witkiewicz]
timmers: (Cape)

Hello!

[personal profile] timmers 2017-12-25 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you're up for sharing, don't mind if I do. [Tim closes the door behind him so he doesn't let the cold in, but he doesn't shed any of his uniform. It's easier, that way, for a lot of reasons.] Lucky for me, then. A place out of the cold is exactly what I wanted. I didn't think a place this green got blizzards this bad.

[He scans the area, including the aformentioned window, checking to see if there are any other surprises. It doesn't seem like there are, but he keeps his back to the exit as he starts looking for kindling and fuel.]

*She's watching him because of the uniform. It was the sort of thing X-Men and Brotherhood would wear. Back when they were around. Masks, however, weren't really a thing they did.*

Can't tell you what's normal here, at all. I was exploring this place when the storm hit.

*She's... covertly, or trying anyway, to remove the melted snow from her clothes by drawing the water off with her powers. It's a little more work drawing in water compared to air. So the process is slow.*

I'm guessing if I ask your name I'll get some sort of codename?
timmers: (I got this)

[personal profile] timmers 2017-12-29 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies. [Okay, maybe that sounded more suave in his head.] It wouldn't mean much, here, but you can call me 'Rob'. And you?

[In the meantime, looks like he's struck gold, there's some dry wood in a box they can use, so he sets to building a fire in the abandoned hearth. He notices the girl seems a little preoccupied, but he assumes it's the cold.] This won't take too long, then we can both dry off. So you're new here, too? I don't really know a lot of people yet.
igotusout: (106 - 001)

[personal profile] igotusout 2017-12-29 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
*Lauren pauses a moment at the 'name.'*

You know wearing a mask, breaking into houses, and having the name 'Rob' is not really inspiring for trust right?

*If he watches there is water leaving her clothes and falling to the floor around her under her hand. But it isn't like she'll be dry before he gets that fire started.*

Lauren... I was trying to figure out this place, what's really going on. Then there was a storm and I was breaking into this place. Haven't gone around trying to make friends yet.

*Someone still wants to go home. She has a brother that isn't here, and he's still in the hands of a jerk lunatic.*
timmers: (Whatever)

[personal profile] timmers 2017-12-29 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Because you totally got in here with a key, right?[Pot, kettle. Breaking and entering is practically a Bat's bread and butter- and nobody gets hurt so long as he doesn't get caught. And by the looks of this place, he doesn't think anyone's going to press charges.] Relax, my line of work's more about stopping the other guys who do that. Where I come from, you've got to be crazy to get the crazies.

[Tim gets the fire started quickly enough, so he starts stacking the logs and kindling to build it up a bit. It's unsurprising he's not the only one with reservations about this place.] I know what you mean. It sounds a little too neat, doesn't it? Like there's fine print you can't see; something you're missing.

[Once he's gotten the fire to a respectable size, he glances back to encourage Lauren to get closer and blinks.] You're, uh. [Is she melting? That's a strangely localized puddle. It's not the other thing, at least. He debates if he should call attention to it-- But it's not like she seems to be hiding it.] Are you doing that?
igotusout: (109 - 013)

[personal profile] igotusout 2017-12-29 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I opened a window, you picked a lock. They're very different things.

*That sounded exactly as lame and rationalizing as she thought it would.*

My world doesn't have anymore people in capes and costumes. That sorta thing got stomped out.

*She doesn't hesitate to move a bit closer to the fire now that it's started. That'll be faster than trying to draw water together. Being paranoid is a go-to if you're used to being hunted and caged by people. Moreso when you just left being caged and studied like an animal. And... she's been caught using her powers. Well, it's not like she's hiding, and if you can't trust a secret to a man in a mask, who can you trust with them?*

I control matter... sorta, I was trying to draw the water off of my clothes. Liquids are a lot harder to move than gasses.

*She waves her hand and creates a small field of air bubbles, air forced together into a tiny array of shields. Completely in defiance of how physics says things work. But Lauren thinks physics can bite her.*
timmers: (I got this)

[personal profile] timmers 2017-12-29 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
[[smol nerd alert]]
Actually, the definition doesn't differentiate. We're both here without explicit authorization, so we're both technically committing a misdemeanor-- if someone pressed charges.

[Tim moves aside to make room for her, unfastening his cloak and setting it aside.] Whoa, really? [Moving matter sounds potentially very useful. Dangerous, too, but she seems alright, so far. He looks over the little shields interestedly.] Are you creating vacuum pockets? How much of it can you make?
igotusout: (101 - 003)

[personal profile] igotusout 2017-12-29 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but I don't wander around with the tools to break into places on me? I didn't plan that I might need to break in somewhere.

*It isn't a legal defense, sure, but she hasn't had to deal with fair laws in... like, months. And technically she's been illegally hiding her powers for three years.*

No, that's the opposite of what those are. That's just air, really solid air. Biggest thing I've done is I made a ramp to jump an 18 wheeler before.
timmers: (Cape)

[personal profile] timmers 2017-12-29 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
What 'tools'? You can do a lock like this with a couple of paperclips.[After all, she can't prove what he used to do it.]

Solid...air? You mean you're compressing gaseous atoms together? That'd mean a lot of pressure- or are you rebonding them? [His brain's practically whirring.] A ramp, huh? So you could, theoretically, make a shack or an armor out of this stuff? You said liquids are harder, so that must mean solids are pretty much impossible. Or maybe it'd just take a lot more concentration...

[Tim trails off thoughtfully. He'd never really met a meta who could control matter, specifically, though a few of them did manipulate certain kinds of it. It's kind of flashy, as powers go.]
igotusout: (108 - 004)

[personal profile] igotusout 2017-12-29 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You're wearing a belt with like fifty different pouches.

*Look, she's new to the whole... everything about this. But she isn't stupid, you're dressed to do something that requires anonymity, she thinks you're prepared like a good boyscout.*

I haven't really tried for solids, I'm still really learning what I can do. I mostly make shields. I've used an air shield to close an artery before? That was... terrifying and really gross. Mostly I just do what helps keep my family safe.
timmers: (Whatever)

[personal profile] timmers 2017-12-30 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I could be a handyman. [Tim shrugs. It doesn't seem like she's unfamiliar with the concept of caped crusaders, at least.]

An artery? That's amazing control. I wonder what kind of surgery you could do with it...

[He smiles a bit at her next words, a tinge of melancholy.] Don't we all? You left your family behind?
igotusout: (106 - 002)

[personal profile] igotusout 2017-12-31 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Handyman seems like a terrible codename.

*Not first hand, but people in masks and costumes have existed in the past.*

Not really something I've thought about doing anymore than I have to. My mom's the nurse, I was just helping.

Yeah, my brother and my parents. How I fell through without my brother I'll never understand. Maybe he wasn't as- nevermind.

*She doesn't want to think about that.*
timmers: (That's what I like to hear)

[personal profile] timmers 2018-01-03 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Good thing it's not mine.

[Tim thinks about that a bit.] It's pretty localized. Could be worse, though. If you both got stuck here, your parents would be twice as worried. You've just got to stay put for now. Who knows, maybe you'll get a portal back sooner than you think.
