People are like that, not black and white. You're allowed to be proud of building a time machine, Cisco. That's definitely something to be proud of, even if it had something to do with him. Everything bad that happened is on him, not you, and not the time machine. That...it's just an object.

[A moment, and he pauses, then reaches out and tucks back some of Cisco's hair.]

Yeah? I'd...like to hear about it, if you want to tell me.

[ Cisco shuts his eyes, exhaling slowly and inclining his head slightly into the touch, though he keeps his arms folded over his chest. ]

You're almost the exact same age. You like fancy beer. You take really careful care of your body. You're honest. You never play head games, or make me try to guess what you're thinking. You laugh a lot at my jokes, even the really bad ones. You're... normal and not a total weirdo like me, but you never act like you're doing me a favor being nice to me, you just act like... it's the obvious thing to do, even though it's really not.

[ There's more, but Cisco thinks he's gotten the general idea across. ]

He was my first friend. You know? Like my first real friend.

[causational]

[Eddie presses his palm gently against Cisco's cheek, though he notices the way Cisco is still protecting himself, his arms across his chest.]

That makes sense.

[For a moment, he's quiet, and then it bursts out of him, because he can't really stop it.]

It is obvious, though. I can admit, you're definitely a geek, but you're the cool kind of geek you see on TV, not the kind that makes me feel like I'm stupid and shouldn't exist in their space, you know? You're smart and talented and cute and you always try to make sure I understand what you're talking about. You make me laugh, you're charming...it's really obvious why anyone would want to be friends with you.

[A pause, and then.]

I wish I'd known Ronnie better. I bet we'd have been good friends too.

You better be careful, you're gonna give me a giant ego if you keep saying stuff like that.

[ Parts of it may be true - he does try to make sure Eddie understands him, to include him and make him feel welcome, but the rest of it? Flattery. It's all Eddie seeing him through rose-tinted glasses, nothing more. ]

You would've, for sure.

[causational]

I think I'd be okay with that.

[A little grin, because honestly the amount that Cisco's self-esteem would have to rise to get to the point of having an actual ego would be way more than Eddie could possibly provide with a few compliments.]
