[ Even if she didn't always think she knew best, she clearly often thinks she knows better, and that's nearly the same thing, isn't it? ]

[scholiast]

No. (Sigh.) Of course I trust my friends, but I– I was more confident in my own ability to fix everything for them. You weren't there Cisco, you... it was awful.

(She glances away.)

I don't need you to make anything of me. This isn't your problem.

[franciscoramon]

You mean fix everything without them.

I'm sure it was awful. I don't doubt that.

It is my problem, if you keep hurting my friends.

[scholiast]

No, I don't.

Cisco, I've known Taako for a century. I've been with my crew for a century; you don't think that you might be missing a couple crucial details? What right do you have to judge me like this?

[franciscoramon]

Knowing him for a long time before you stabbed him in the back doesn't, like, make it better.

[scholiast]

I didn't stab him in the back.

(She folds her arms tight across herself, protectively.) I didn't do anything with the intention of hurting him. And I know that intent doesn't count for anything, before you try that.

[franciscoramon]

Yeah whatever.

[ Cisco clearly has a different definition of backstabbing, but also clearly doesn't feel like debating the issue any further. Time for some awkward awkward silence. ]

[scholiast]

(Lucretia sighs, sharp and uncomfortable into the silence. Is it time to get off yet. When she next speaks, her voice is hesitant.)

Am I wrong in thinking that we are friends? (Maybe 'were friends' would have been more appropriate. She doesn't know any more.)

[franciscoramon]

[ Cisco really wants to spit out a quick and simple 'yes'. That would make everything so much easier, if he could just despise Lucretia, cleanly and completely. But, honesty elevator. ]

I really don't know.

[ He had liked her a lot, and then everything had gotten so messed up. ]

Do you want to be?

[scholiast]

Yes and no.

(She honestly meant to leave it at that, but for some reason she just keeps going.)

I've always enjoyed hanging out with you, but I don't want to force you to like me. If you're suspicious of me that's fine, Cisco. But I know what happened, and I don't– I'm not going to... I don't like having to be on the defensive like this, every time we speak. So if it's going to be like this now, you should just leave me alone.

[franciscoramon]

I enjoyed hanging out with you, too. I liked you a lot. That... made it a whole lot worse.

[ Fuck, he really hadn't meant to say any of that. ]

I don't like being on the offensive, either. I don't like any of it.

[ His words are halting but he keeps speaking, less out of a desire to do so and more because he just can't seem to stop. ]

I guess we'll just have to see how it goes.

[scholiast]

I guess.

(Though, if she's being honest; and before she can finish that thought, she's just saying it out loud instead:)

No offence, but I'm not super into the idea of hanging about waiting to find out if you'll ever be able to think kindly of me again.
