Everyone does it. Sooner or later, it'll come.

[ But he finds he's not angry. Or he simply finds anger tiresome. Loki shrugs loosely. ]

But I suppose it no longer matters when or where or even who. I know what I will reap.

I wish you'd give me the chance to prove you wrong.

[ But he's not going to push, either. He knows trying to force people to let him closer will only make them want to pull even farther away, so. ]

It can be a wonderful thing, having people by your side.

[ His lips twitch minutely. ]

As far as wishes go, you might consider aiming higher.

Perhaps it can be. I would not know.

I have a few other wishes, you know. It's not like befriending you is at the top of my list.

[ There's a hint of teasing to his tone, which he can't help despite the way their previous encounter ended. ]

But you could know.

I don't want to know simply so I can lose it later. It's too much.

I'm guessing you don't believe in that saying, then? Better to have loved and lost...

[ He watches Loki, though, his gaze understanding. It's a truthful answer, which is a rarity coming from Loki, and he genuinely appreciates that. ]

[ Loki snorts lightly. ]

Thor believes it. That we grow and change through love. But Thor has always been more gifted, more easy to love. So he can speak with knowledge and magnanimity.

It is not so easy for me.

Well, I like you. From what little we talked, anyway. Thor looks too much like my dad, it's weird.

[ Well there goes something he didn't mean to bring up. ANYWAY. ]

Maybe you should dye your hair. We blondes tend to be more popular, or so I'm told.

[ Loki blinks, caught off guard by that simple expression. ]

I would look terrible with blond hair.

I would say you won't know until you try, but... yeah, it probably wouldn't be very flattering on you. [ He shrugs. ] Oh, well. You still have the whole 'tall dark stranger' thing going for you.

I hear those are the kind you fear in rat-infested alleys, are they not? Or do people now measure attractiveness by how dangerous the individual is?

[winscenario]

[ Jim laughs, shaking his head. ]

Okay, fine, 'tall dark and handsome'. It's definitely a thing, trust me. Some people love brooding, mysterious guys. Or girls.

That seems like a defect in human survival instincts.

Maybe. I can see the appeal, but it's admittedly not my usual type. Not that I have a type, but still.

What "types" do you speak of?

Oh. That's just... manner of speech. When we talk about a person's 'type' it usually refers to a certain type of person, or a specific trait, that someone might find especially attractive. You don't have an expression like that in Asgard?

Not to my knowledge. Certainly we have desirable traits that we look for in a person. But nothing so defined as types.

What kind of types exist?

[winscenario]

Anything can serve as a 'type'. Just about any physical or personality trait, or even something they're good at. So a person's type can be something as simple as 'funny', or something like 'brooding musician with dirt blond hair, an old car and a collection of worn and torn up jeans'. Or you can slot people into stereotypes and go with 'jock', 'nerd' and so on. That's sort of dated where I come from, though.

[ How . . . bizarre. But Loki supposes that Asgard had their own stereotypes. And they were certainly a lot more demanding than . . . what was attractive. ]

Our types range towards the species. Troll, elf, monster and the like. Asgardians do not differ much among each other.

[winscenario]

Yeah, you and your brother are two of a kind. It's almost impossible to tell you apart.

[ That's sarcasm so technically he's still respecting the laws of the elevator of truth. ]

He is not my brother. And I am not Asgardian. Merely a monster dressed in their finery.

What?

[ Okay, now he's confused. ]

Hold on, didn't you come from Asgard? And he says you're his brother, so how come you're saying that?

[dothelokimotion]

[ Loki snorts delicately. ]

Thor says it because he believes it. He will cling to that one truth even as the world collapses. But it does not change the truth. I was a spoil of war, from another realm. I have no claim to Asgard save my childhood.

[winscenario]

Being from another world doesn't make you a monster. It's what you do that determines that.

[ Of course, if Jim only knew. ]

Didn't you grow up together? Play together, help and care for each other? That's a brother in my books. Doesn't matter where you came from.
