Oh, lots of things - I can't paint or draw and I was never very good in my history classes and you know my Klingon is atrocious.

Also I'm really bad with money.

You wouldn't know any of that by looking at you. You're always so capable.

(Bad at money!! Lucretia is deeply charmed.) Are you an impulsive spender, or?

Not that exactly... It's just we don't use money in the Federation.

[scholiast]

You don't?

(Wait, what!) What do you use instead?

[dancingmd]

Well I mean...with the technology we have and the ways society has shifted in the past few centuries, capitalism has become... Outdated. We have Federation credit accounts if we need to interact with other societies that do use money but other than that... (She shrugs.)

[scholiast]

That's incredible.

(She's deeply impressed.) We've been to a few places where capitalism had all but disappeared, but I had always found the idea deeply... fanciful. Just to be disparaging about it.

[dancingmd]

Trust me, there's nothing fanciful or theoretical about it. It's... (She shrugs.) Normal for me.

(She grins.)

It always amuses me how easily people will believe that I live on a starship and that I've visited hundreds of different planets or that we've cured the common cold or that we have transporter technology, yet they cannot envision a world without capitalism.

[scholiast]

To be fair, I'm a slightly harder pitch in that I also live on a starship and have visited hundreds of different planets too. But I see what you mean.

(She smiles, ruefully.) Just goes to show the true staying power of it, huh.

But– you've really cured the common cold? That's cool.

Undertaker and I have completely mortified you, haven't we?

His sense of humor does take some getting used to.

It can be. He's been asking me for years to fit me for a custom coffin.

[Casual little shrug.]

Only a bit. He's always taken care of the Phantomhive family. We tend to die young.

[Now her look softens.]

[Well, well. Look what has just happened while they each going about their way. He's not familiar with the workings of an elevator other than you push a button to go to the floor you want and it goes there, but now that it's not going, he'll turn to Beverly and pin her with a grin.]

Seems we're trapped here. How interesting. [Maybe he should be concerned. He's not though. She, on the other hand...] You're a doctor of medicine, yes?

[Of course it had to be him. She sighs inwardly, though she tries to maintain politeness, for Ciel's sake.]

That's right. I suppose Ciel told you?

He did introduce you as Doctor Beverly Crusher. I just made an assumption that turned out right.

You know, he never did tell me your name. Surely you've not always simply been referred to as the Undertaker?

Once upon a time, long ago. But it's what little Phantomhive has called me, and his father before him, and so on. If it's all the same to you, to Undertaker, I will answer.

It's rather morbid, isn't it?

It is what I am. Comes with the territory, I'm afraid, but it can't be helped. Someone needs handle the living while others handle the dead. People find themselves uncomfortable with me there by association with it all, so what does it matter if my name sounds pleasant to them or if it gives them chills?
