After a significant chunk of intense research, both magical and scientific, hindered pretty badly by the fact that scientific and magical researchers are not, in fact, immune to bouts of amnesia themselves, the verdict is in. A cure for the pollen-induced epidemic of amnesia effects has been found in a very unlikely place. Rather than something high-tech or a complex magical spell, the cure is simple herbology - a red leaf on a particular species of tree, ground up with a mortar and pestle, and brewed into tea will completely reverse the effects of the amnesia within 4 hours of ingestion. Of course, the side effects of the tea are a little uncomfortable, and depending on the person they can span a wide range from nausea to fever and chills to a serious 24-hour flu. Some people are lucky enough to get off completely without side effects.
Still, someone's gotta go out into the jungle and gather those leaves, and those people will need a protection detail. The teams of foraging explorers and their protectors are assembled quickly and sent out with the instructions - follow the birds. There are several species of a parrot-like bird that are native to the moon that make their homes in the trees the leaves come from and feed there, and these birds will quickly lead the teams to where they can find the supplies for the necessary cure.
While the intrepid teams head out into the jungle to gather up the cure, there's plenty of work to be done inside the city. After identifying the particular flower that's been sprouting up around the city and spreading its amnesia-inducing pollen, volunteers from the Perimeter Guard, Fire Department, and Police Department are handing out pictures of the flowers and equipment to destroy them to anyone who's willing to lend a hand.
That equipment? Small, portable flamethrowers capable of incinerating the plants with a single pull of the trigger.
Volunteers are welcome to wander around the city with the flamethrowers and destroy every plant they set their sights on, and while there will be ample supervision and regular patrols by various types of authorities, there might be room for a little foul play if the wrong person gets hold of the gear.
As the day wears on, the first batches of antidote tea will start being handed out, with volunteers carrying around containers of it on their backs and handing out cups to anyone willing to take them. The tea tastes...pretty good, actually! A little sweet with a distinct citrus aftertaste. Nice!
Characters are welcome to volunteer for either of these efforts. For any affected character who did not or could not take the antidote tea, the effects of the pollen will wear off within 12 hours of the flowers being destroyed, which will be in the late evening of August 21st.
A day or two after the amnesia ordeal is over, some members of the Perimeter Guard Orientation Support team start putting up flyers and sending out ads over the network and screens around the city for a Stuff Swap at the Perimeter Guard headquarters on August 22nd. Anyone in the city is welcome to bring books, clothes, household goods, jewelry, or any other items that they don't want and to trade them for other items that other characters are willing to give up.
One man's scrap is another man's treasure, after all, and the Orientation team thinks that maybe the act of sharing, give and take, will help new arrivals to integrate more easily with the people who are already in the city. And maybe it will give them a chance to stock up on useful items they didn't arrive with!
Throughout the last half of August and the first half of September, advertisements are also being spread for an event called Plays by the Plage, featuring both professional and amateur performances of famous plays from all over the multiverse. The performances are free, and anyone who wishes to attend can just bring a blanket and picnic basket and watch the plays. The quality of the performances ranges from intense, beautiful, and moving to horrific and so-bad-it's-good.
Anyone who wants to put on a performance of their own is also more than welcome to set that up, cast it, and act their little hearts out on the big or small stage!
Whether your character is posting up a silly word game to distract people from the dangerous mission going on, trying to get hold of a friend, or putting out feelers for people to go out into the fray with, the network is going strong.
Alternately, an offer for a free app is popping up on new arrivals' devices - Friendr is a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app.
Friendr base code is by photosynthesis.
The code in the textbox is for the default color scheme, but the Friendr app has a wide variety of themes, so feel free to customize with colors and patterns as you see fit, but do not remove the credit line out of respect for the creator of the code.
Use the wildcard prompt to choose your own adventure and do whatever else you like in the setting!

Only after the flower is reduced to ash, and he's beaten out the residual flames on the awning with the building's welcome mat, does he turn his full attention and bright smile on her. "Was that a high priority concern of yours? Are you usually a menace to local flora?" Somehow, even though the words are not at all suggestive, it carries with it the strong undertone of flirting. Special talent of Jack's.

And she just can't help but watch while the savior with the handsome face reduces the greenery to ash and then proceeds to be as responsible as possible--making sure the fire is out before flashing that lovely smile her way. "Usually only in the kitchen." The reply comes out with a confidence that usually doesn't come with the laugh that bubbles up, but there you have it. It isn't often that Izzy actually admits that she can't cook, but it is just an off-handed, throwaway comment for the moment. "But with the bouts of amnesia those little babies have been helping cause lately...little higher than usual on the priority list...for most, actually." Izzy winks, playfully, her own flirtatious nature coming out without much thought.
Holding her hand out, and edging closer, Izzy grins a bit. "Isabelle Lightwood."

"Now, then. Not to be too forward, but I'm going to have to insist on getting you a drink." A beat, a very suggestive smile. "There are volunteers wandering around giving out tea that combats the memory loss. I don't believe you inhaled any of the pollen, but the most prudent course of action is probably still to get you some. Just to be safe. Shall we?"
no subject
"I owe you a very sincere thanks for having my back there." Izzy's tone is warm, friendly and she means what she's saying. She is thankful. Jace might not have been one of the more severe cases of amnesia out there, but forgetting anything was a pain, and Izzy could attest to that just from the situation that she had been through during her time in Wayward Pines.
No more memory problems.
A laugh bubbles up, Izzy's grin growing as the corners of her mouth turn upward a bit more. "It's as good an excuse as any to get to know you a little better, Jack." She can't help herself. That suggestive smile is only encouraging her own natural response. She can already tell that he's an interesting one and Izzy has never shied away from anybody that she's found interesting. "And better safe than sorry, of course. So, we shall." She's not always agreeable, but at the moment she finds it incredibly easy to be. Winking at her companion, Izzy gestures for him to lead the way.

"I always appreciate it when a guy is handsome, chivalrous, and honest." That fact keeps the grin on Izzy's mouth as she replies. To her, there's nothing wrong with honesty. And if she didn't appreciate the compliments, or there were something less genuine or suave about them she'd not hesitate to let him know. Fact of the matter is, there's a charm to Captain Jack Harkness, the kind help but draw you in. And Izzy's not a shy person, anyway, despite the fact that she took her sweet time settling in.
"I should add accommodating in to my list from before, but please Isabelle or Izzy." Izzy teases before giving the preference for her name, taking in the man walking along with her. She doesn't recognize his face. And with a personality like his...she's sure she'd have remembered him anyway. "Why don't we start with an easy question... how long have you been in Riverview Quarantine?"

She took her time in jumping into the community and putting herself out there (even though it was very much unlike her). Maybe she chose the right time, though, even if all she did in this case was stand in the wrong place.
"So you're still getting settled in. Sort of, you've definitely jumped right in to help get rid of those pesky flowers." She nods before considering, and half counting off, how long she has been here. "I've been here about a month....give or take. My family is here with me and it's taken about that entire time for all of us to settle in, really." Izzy shares, not shy in the least about giving some details about herself, and her situation here. He's doesn't seem to fit in the category of shy either from what Izzy has observed. It does serve to make her more curious about him.
"So, what do you think of Riverview so far?"

"That's one hell of a gift." Izzy nods before a laugh at his train of thought with her family being brought up. She can't imagine being here alone. Then again, she's always been a part of a team. She's the middle child, so she was never really on her own and her confidence has never been a weakness, nor independence an issue, despite that. "Much easier and I like my family, mostly." Izzy jokes with a bit of a twinkle in her eye, adding on after a moment. "They have their moments, but I suppose most do, especially when there's one minor in the bunch." Izzy playfully rolls her eyes, but there's a fondness in her tone as she thinks about Max....even though he can be a fairly big pain in the ass.
She hasn't forgotten what they're in search of, but Jack isn't the only one who doesn't feel in any particular hurry. "Did you wind up taking the job that you were 'placed' in at arrival?"
no subject
"Well, glad to know I can make this place just a little more interesting," he shoots back, smile not slipping. Minor or no, she's still clearly a fun person. If it turns out a lot of his thoughts are suddenly inappropriate, he'll deal with that. For now, she still needs that tea.
Oh, and he sees someone down the block to the left. Hand on her lower back redirects her gently. "I took the job. Not sure if it's going to stick, but it's a place to start. How about you? What do you do?"
no subject
Points, Jack, you're really racking them up here, actually. Izzy can't help but like him considering the easy-going nature and calm and confident way that he seems to handle himself so far. After all, that's the sort of person anyone wants to be around, right?
"Guess that's one way to look at it." Izzy nods, nonplussed by the hand on her back, turning to the left easily letting him lead and not getting tripped up or confused. They are after one of the people giving out the tea, after all, and even if she's only paying a bit of attention he's a bit more focused. "I took the job I was offered too. I'm the forensic pathologist for the Riverview Police Department. And I like it at the moment." Izzy offers, having no current plans of making any changes in her own 'career' situation Though, she can't help but wonder at Jack's placement.

The man with the tea is not walking all that quickly, probably owing to the massive drink canister on his back, and Izzy is very agile in those heels. They're close enough for Jack to wave to him now, wordlessly ask him not to go any further or turn down another street before they can reach him.
