Welcome to Riverview's test drive meme! Feel free to dip your toes in on the test drive meme to try out your character in the setting, play out a mission, and get samples for your application at the same time!

● There are currently 17 Character Slots available.
● Applications are open and will remain open until such time as there are 30 or more character slots available at one time. Applications will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis. Any applications in excess of available spots will be placed in a queue and processed as drops or activity sweeps happen.
● Providing all parties are amenable, threads on the test drive meme can count as game canon, as the plot in the prompts presented is game canon, and may continue while applicants are waiting on the queue (including spanning multiple TDMs).
● TDM threads do not count for Activity Check, but they do count for Activity Bonus Points, so long as all characters involved are accepted into the game.
● Threading on the TDM is intended for prospective new characters, so top-levels should only be posted by players of these characters. Since the events in the TDM are considered game canon, characters currently in the game are free to use the TDM prompts for logs and posts on the regular communities.

prompt i: flock together

After a significant chunk of intense research, both magical and scientific, hindered pretty badly by the fact that scientific and magical researchers are not, in fact, immune to bouts of amnesia themselves, the verdict is in. A cure for the pollen-induced epidemic of amnesia effects has been found in a very unlikely place. Rather than something high-tech or a complex magical spell, the cure is simple herbology - a red leaf on a particular species of tree, ground up with a mortar and pestle, and brewed into tea will completely reverse the effects of the amnesia within 4 hours of ingestion. Of course, the side effects of the tea are a little uncomfortable, and depending on the person they can span a wide range from nausea to fever and chills to a serious 24-hour flu. Some people are lucky enough to get off completely without side effects.

Still, someone's gotta go out into the jungle and gather those leaves, and those people will need a protection detail. The teams of foraging explorers and their protectors are assembled quickly and sent out with the instructions - follow the birds. There are several species of a parrot-like bird that are native to the moon that make their homes in the trees the leaves come from and feed there, and these birds will quickly lead the teams to where they can find the supplies for the necessary cure.

prompt ii: flame on

While the intrepid teams head out into the jungle to gather up the cure, there's plenty of work to be done inside the city. After identifying the particular flower that's been sprouting up around the city and spreading its amnesia-inducing pollen, volunteers from the Perimeter Guard, Fire Department, and Police Department are handing out pictures of the flowers and equipment to destroy them to anyone who's willing to lend a hand.

That equipment? Small, portable flamethrowers capable of incinerating the plants with a single pull of the trigger.

Volunteers are welcome to wander around the city with the flamethrowers and destroy every plant they set their sights on, and while there will be ample supervision and regular patrols by various types of authorities, there might be room for a little foul play if the wrong person gets hold of the gear.

As the day wears on, the first batches of antidote tea will start being handed out, with volunteers carrying around containers of it on their backs and handing out cups to anyone willing to take them. The tea tastes...pretty good, actually! A little sweet with a distinct citrus aftertaste. Nice!

Characters are welcome to volunteer for either of these efforts. For any affected character who did not or could not take the antidote tea, the effects of the pollen will wear off within 12 hours of the flowers being destroyed, which will be in the late evening of August 21st.

prompt iii: white elephant

A day or two after the amnesia ordeal is over, some members of the Perimeter Guard Orientation Support team start putting up flyers and sending out ads over the network and screens around the city for a Stuff Swap at the Perimeter Guard headquarters on August 22nd. Anyone in the city is welcome to bring books, clothes, household goods, jewelry, or any other items that they don't want and to trade them for other items that other characters are willing to give up.

One man's scrap is another man's treasure, after all, and the Orientation team thinks that maybe the act of sharing, give and take, will help new arrivals to integrate more easily with the people who are already in the city. And maybe it will give them a chance to stock up on useful items they didn't arrive with!

prompt iv: plays by the plage

Throughout the last half of August and the first half of September, advertisements are also being spread for an event called Plays by the Plage, featuring both professional and amateur performances of famous plays from all over the multiverse. The performances are free, and anyone who wishes to attend can just bring a blanket and picnic basket and watch the plays. The quality of the performances ranges from intense, beautiful, and moving to horrific and so-bad-it's-good.

Anyone who wants to put on a performance of their own is also more than welcome to set that up, cast it, and act their little hearts out on the big or small stage!

prompt v: friendr/network

Whether your character is posting up a silly word game to distract people from the dangerous mission going on, trying to get hold of a friend, or putting out feelers for people to go out into the fray with, the network is going strong.

Alternately, an offer for a free app is popping up on new arrivals' devices - Friendr is a friend-finder and/or dating app. If characters choose to install it, they will fill out a short bio and parameters for what they're looking for, upload a snap of themselves, and then proceed to browse for matches. This is a typical swipe-left-or-right type app.

[ Obi-Wan spares him a curious glance. The bird cocks its head at them, flapping before straightening itself on Obi-Wan's arm. ]

Being a resident of the forest, I would imagine it knows where I need to go better than anyone else here.

Draco couldn't help himself. He was too new to this place, to these differing circumstances and cultures all melding into one. With people of different abilities and beliefs. Draco had come a long way in the years after the war, but he was still the product of his raising. Still a spoiled rich kid mixed in with the adult the trials and trauma of war was morphing him into.

So he scoffed. "A bird? Is it specially trained? It certainly doesn't look like a phoenix, which is just about the only real intelligent bird there is." Draco gave a wave of his hand and a shake of his head. Though he did not move away, instead lingering. Because despite his dismissal of the notion, he was curious.

[ If Draco's tone irritated him, it does not show. Obi-Wan remains placid and congenial, deep waters hard enough for any stranger to tread into. He shrugs loosely. And Obi-Wan used to be of the same mind, long ago. Bunching all the pathetic creatures into one group. ]

I try not to measure the intelligence of one creature to the next.

Draco crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back on his heels slightly. Lifting his chin a touch as hewas quiet a moment, studying the man and bird.

"I..." wwill watch, then. Except he faltered and the words didn't make it out. Here was the change. The shift within Draco the war had started. The new voices of reason speaking up within his mind. Challenging the status quo within. "I would like to watch. To see what ability you use with this bird." He didn't ask if that was alright, but if one knew Draco they would understand the change from a demand to merely expressing a desire and his curiosity.

[ Obi-Wan merely raises an eyebrow. Something in the man stirs and Obi-Wan can feel the winds of change. A serene smile continues to play on his lips as he turns his attention back to the bird. ]

I'm looking for a special kind of plant. A tree with red leaves. Think you can find it for me?

[ The bird chirps, flapping its wings and Obi-Wan raises his arm so that it might fly away. It circles above them, waiting for them to follow. ]

If this man used an ability with the bird, Draco could not tell. There was no outward sign of it. It left Draco's brows furrowed. He itched to use his wand to run a diagnostic spell of, well, any sort. Something to explain, though he could ask.

When the bird takes off Draco's eyes follow it up into the air for a moment. They then fall back to the strange man.

"What now?"

[ He can't help the dry chuckle. It sounds very much like Anakin when he was younger. ]

Now? We follow. Unless you have somewhere else to be?

Draco's face took on a deadpan expression at the man's words.

"I'm stuck on the moon of a strange planet in an alternate universe with a multitude of strange people, no family or connections." He said, his voice just as deadpan. "So no, I do not."

Draco then motioned with one had for the man to lead the way. "Plus this is the only familiar thing about this place," he muttered accompanied by a long suffering sigh.

That simply means you have nowhere to go but up.

[ Obi-Wan climbs over the large tree roots. He glances at the sky every now and then to see if he is following the bird. The Living Force breathes through him like a caress and Obi-Wan takes a moment to pause, letting it sink in. Fighting a war rarely offers a chance to breathe. ]

What is so familiar?

The laugh Draco gives is a dry one. Go up? He wasn't sure how to go about that here in this new, strange place. How did one progress here? He still had yet to figure this out. He would, though. Even here, Draco was a Malfoy. Those expectations for excellence were too well ingrained.

Draco followed after, a bit slower for. Eventually sighing in frustration. Thankfully when he'd come over he'd been taking a moment on his broom, and so it was here with him. Taking out his wand he cast.

"Accio broom." As he cast he held the image of his broom within his head, then continued on. The broom would find him.

"This. Hunting for plants. Collecting them. My teacher and mentor was one of the greatest Potion Masters in my world. So this hunt is... familiar."

[ Obi-Wan hums softly. Master Qui-Gon would engage in similar pursuits, trying to encourage Obi-Wan into enjoying the nature that surrounds them. Obi-Wan, at the time, would have much preferred to be at the temple and practicing his saber play. ]

Sounds interesting. I cannot say I know much about potions.

If the strange man looked back he'd see Draco's expression soften a moment. He had genuine feelings of affection for Severus. His teach and mentor, friend of hsi father's. Severus Snape had been a constant figure in his life. But guilt quickly followed. They hadn't been on the best of terms when Severus died. But then it was all quickly shuttered behind mental walls.

"Hardly surprising. Even in my world many do not know or excel in Potions. It requires talent and percision." Draco glanced back behind them, wondering how long it was going to take his broom to reach him. It should be soon.

"How did you command the bird?"

[ Obi-Wan looks back, bemused. Despite his stiff clothing, Obi-Wan seems careless. Or carefree. It's hard to tell. ]

I commanded nothing. I asked for his help and he was kind enough to do so. Only men with no confidence desire power to fill themselves.

Draco gave the man an incredulous look. "You talk as if it is a sentient being."

A moment later rustling could be heard and Draco stopped and turned toward it. "Ah, here it comes." Watching, he spies the broom moving rapidly toward him and casually steps tot eh side at te last moment, hand reaching out and plucking the broom out of the air.

"I think your bird firend might appriciate it if we could keep up better. Have you ever flown?" Draco asked as he mounted the broom.

[ How droll. But it's not an uncommon statement to hear. This man is still young. However, what catches his attention is the broom which he eyes with no small distaste. ]

Certainly, but not on a thin plank of wood.

Draco sat on the broom with both brows raised, amusement painted all over his face. Followed by an expression that was pure deviousness.

"Ah, yes. It is a common opinion of the old and infirm that broom travel isn't safe. More that they lack balance and a sense of adventure." Darco sat up straight and crossed his arms again. Completely at ease upon the broom.

"You do not need to worry, old man. I wont drop you."

[ Obi-Wan resists the urge to be petulant, which is much harder than it looks. Years of bickering with Anakin almost lets it slip out. ]

It is not falling that bothers me. It is the eventual crash landing.

[ Though, perhaps, it'd be nice to fly and not crash into the ground, Anakin. ]

"Crash?" Draco scoffed at that. Of all the ridiculous things he had ever heard.

"I haven't crashed in years. I happen to be a superb flyer. Now, are you getting on?" Honestly, Draco hdn't. Not since on the pitch playing against Potter when the heay of competition had Draco doing things he really shouldn't have tried.

[ Obi-Wan shoots the broom a contemplative look before shrugging and taking his place behind Draco. He's not particularly worried, but something about this mode of transport seems undignified. Maybe it was the tufts of dry wood at the back, Obi-Wan wryly thinks to himself. Even Yoda might find this questionable. ]

Draco was pleased there was no further argument over riding the broom. Now, riding two people on a broom wasn't ideal, but hardly something Draco hadn't done before. Once the man was on Draco adjusteed his seating and reached down to take hold of the broom.

"You might want to hold on, and by Merlin do not lean opposite of me." Then Draco was moving the broom. Raising up into the air rapidly, but steadly. Until they were up on level with the waiting bird. Ready to follow it at the birds own pace.

I don't enjoy falling.

[ If all goes well, maybe Obi-Wan will even recant his statements about the Twilight. Probably. It's not as though Anakin or anyone else is here to see him do this. He carefully rests his hands on the broom, fingers latching on.

The bird trills as it flies on. Obi-Wan curiously glances on the ground because seriously, how. ]

Draco rolled his eyes as he flew after the bird, easily keeping pace. "No one enjoys falling unless their head has been damaged." Draco drawled in a bored tone.

"You might find it more secure to hold onto me." It was all too easy to remember back to those first lessons at Hogwarts and how uneasy those less familiar with broom riding had been. Not knowing the proper grip for a broom, or how to guide it properly. To illistrate his point further Draco weaved a bit to avoid a branch in their way.

I didn't want to be forward.

[ Says the man who is very forward at times, despite his upbringing. Though being a Jedi certainly lends itself to that mystique. He casually rests his hands around Draco's waist. ]

Though this hardly feels secure at all.

To be quite honest, such a thing being 'forward' had never crossed his mind. After all, this stranger was male and older. Likely close to his father's age. Hardly worthy of making Draco question his sexuality.

"Sorry, but you are not my type." Draco shook his head slightly. "Well there is not much room and I'd rather not worry about you touching my arse on accident, and it helps me stay aware of your movements behind me." Meaning, if the man did not move with Draco, he could compensate for it.

"I hope this bird really knows where it is going."

[ Draco's assumption makes him chuckle. Not that kind of forward. Obi-Wan rarely engages in physical contact, even if he is more than willing to flirt and cajole others. But not with someone close to Anakin's age. ]

He knows.
