[ things were all turned around and it kept sending constant surges of dread to flood throughout him. what if he never made it back home and HYDRA found a way to have a greater stronghold without him to oppose them? the other avengers were likely to step up but what if the government disbanded them? without a leader, they were unlikely to be taken as seriously. Tony could step up, of course, and while Steve believed in his capabilities, he didn't exactly handle being a team player too well.
they were all working on it and were just coming into their own when Steve blinked himself awake in a strange place he had never been before. the current mission gave a purpose and the guy in front of him seemed to want to make it more difficult.
Steve thrived on difficulties, however. he spent his whole life in the midst of a battle, after all. some more inner wars but he kept all of those to himself as much as possible.
a few choice retorts rested on his tongue but were swallowed down when he noticed the red and gold.
