[ It is only the second time Maia has ever heard Csevet say his name. The first, he remembers, with perfect clarity, had been that confused final night at Edonomee, when Csevet had come with the message that his fathers and brothers were all dead, and that he was to be made emperor. It's a little surprising, how his stomach gives a tiny jump to hear his name in Csevet's voice. He pronounces it so correctly, so carefully, as if it were a thing made of glass that he does not own and might break if he is not careful with it.

Maia is not displeased by Csevet's humorous remark, about the clothing here and the warm weather. Instead, he just grins, leaning forward a bit and saying: ]

You cannot yet have seen the half of it. A few weeks ago, there was a grand parade, and most everyone was parading around in- well, in almost nothing. Just- scraps of cloth, and feathers, and string. But do not worry. I know a few shops that I believe will not displease you.

[ Maia sits back, taking up the silverware and beginning to dig in to his dish, saying as he does: ]

It will be as it was when I first arrived at Court, only I will be the one helping you become accustomed to your new surroundings. Only doubtless you will be a far faster learner than I was, and will know more about the ins and outs of this place than me within the week.

[ Maia's voice is warm with fondness as he delivers this compliment, newly relishing his ability to do so, without Csevet being able to refuse it by saying that the emperor should not speak that way to a servant. ]

What is your job?
