Alex had signed up for the food and the food alone. Sure he didn't strictly need to eat human food, but a free meal was a good reason to try something new. He felt weird wasting money on a full meal, usually, but free is free. He's a little surprised when the person seated across from him is quite possibly not female, but he hadn't actually come here for the date, so he just leaves it at a look of surprise.

He tugs at the hem of the hood on his hoodie near the neck, glancing off to the side awkwardly, "I-I'm gonna be honest, I c-came here for the f-free food." There, it was out in the open. He did his responsibility, right? "I mean, n-not ta shut down conversation or a-anything, but, y-you know, I just don't wanna front or somethin'."
