Some residents may remember that back in September, a love-drunk and confusion-spell-addled newlywed mage from Gramarye Magic Research let loose some pretty little fairy lights that trapped people in the city in little invisible bubbles until they kissed (and any kind of kiss would do). Well, the same slightly-less-newlywed but no less romantically-inclined mage happens to really, really enjoy the winter season, and thinks it's totally romantic. That particular sentiment is pretty common in the Quarantine - while Hygge is the celebration of familial love, the residents of the Quarantine all agree that that family often includes partners and lovers. Besides that, the folklore of mistletoe as being representative of love and friendship is something that the Quarantine has in common with the universes many residents inhabit.

So, as the last week and a half of December rolls around, residents around the Quarantine will see the result of the resident romantic trying to share a bit of Hygge love - small, glowing sprigs of mistletoe will be floating around the Quarantine, ready to trap people up and make them share a bit of affection.

how it works

● Two or more characters walking under one of these glowing, floating sprigs will get stuck for one hour, trapped inside an invisible enclosure with an approximate three foot radius. The only options are to either wait out the hour, or to kiss! Characters will know they're meant to kiss, because part of the magic spell is the sudden and intense knowledge that they should kiss in order to break free. There is no compulsion to kiss, just the knowledge that that's how to get free. This time, instead of any kind of kiss working, there will be different types of kisses that will work to release the trapped residents depending on the color of mistleglow:

RED: MOUTH ● ORANGE: NECK ● YELLOW: CHEEK
GREEN: FOREHEAD ● BLUE: HAND ● VIOLET: BUTTERFLY

Trapped residents will not know what kind of kiss will work for each color and may have to experiment before finding the right one.

● Post up a top-level for your character with the types of kisses you're interested in threading out, and then go forth and have your character kiss (or refuse to kiss) others!
● This meme is for characters already accepted into the game to play with the mistleglow prompt from this month's test drive meme. If your character is not yet accepted into the game, please use the TDM post!
● This meme is GAME CANON, so any threads played out in this meme can be carried through into the actual canon of the game.
● Much like the TDM, threads on this meme can count for Activity Points, but not the monthly Activity Check.

[ And he does enjoy the show for a moment or two, not bothering to hide his obvious interest.

He smiles a little, small and crooked, but he did have a job to do. He tugs off the sheets, leaving them in a heap on his bed for the moment, before grabbing a towel wet with warm water from the bathroom. He gives himself a cursory wiping down before returning to the bedroom.

Then, he wrinkles his nose when he spots the heap of future-laundry now sitting on his bed.

Chores. Ugh. ]

[ If Finn weren't a good person he'd drop an elbow right here, right now. But he is a good person, so he sits up instead and gives Poe the most side-eyeing side-eye he can muster. ]

Sure, now you say it. [ Where was your "whoops" ten seconds ago! Maybe that would have been too iconic, though. How could any moment in time top it in the future? ]

[volitaunt]

I could say it again? [ Poe sits back up, braced on his elbows. ] We could find some more mistletoe, I could get the timing right.

[technospeak]

[John is looking at him. In and of itself, that's not unusual, because John looks at his face all the time, even tries to read it the way he's reading it now. But somehow, it feels entirely different in this moment, with what Rodney had asked and John had replied, because Rodney knows that when John's green eyes are searching his face, they're looking for places to kiss.

And then suddenly John isn't just looking anymore, he's leaning in to press his mouth against Rodney's cheeks and the corner of his mouth, his ear, his neck, breathing out a soft 'here' at every location. Rodney's face screws up out of some complicated emotion somewhere between excitement and horror and shock and enjoyment. He makes a soft noise in his throat when John scrapes his teeth against his throat, and lifts his hands, pressing them against John's chest, but not exactly pushing him away.]

John...

[It's somewhere between enticement and rebuke, but there's no heat in it at all.]

Left and unfortunately came back.

[Ivar's still feeling rather sour over Letha showing up again just as abruptly as she had left.]

Why?

[Normally she wouldn't care that much, this isn't her problem, but Ivar is something from a long lost version of home. She can show a little interest for him.]

[Keith straightened up ever so slightly as Shiro came towards him, but that was the most reaction he gave. When Shiro pulled back from the kiss, Keith gave him a slightly amused smile. It was like when he was a kid all over again... which, when it came to Shiro, was a pretty nice feeling in and of itself.

Still, he did back up a little, reaching his arm out to see if the barrier was gone.]

Hey... that worked.

So, yellow means kiss on the cheek. I'll have to remember that if I get it again.

[ Okay, good. They've got an understanding, that's good. Finn relaxes a little bit himself. As much as he ever really does. ]

Yeah, I'll take a pass on that. Run into enough trouble as a human already. [ Look, it's true. Life gets way too wild sometimes. ] I'm Finn, by the way.

[deploy]

[So they kiss for a while. A lot longer than is probably necessary, but who's counting? The mistletoe is still lingering, so their time isn't up.

When John's tongue gets tired of twisting, and he's fairly certain Alex needs to come up for air, his lips track a path over her smooth cheek to the curve of her jaw. He likes the way her hair tickles his nose, soft and smooth.

He plants a kiss at the juncture of her jaw and neck, another wetter, hotter kiss just an inch lower, over her jugular. When he gets away with that much, a smirk against her throat before biting lightly, just enough to smart. And to leave a little red mark that'll fade before the end of the day, probably.

And just like that, the mistletoe blips out of existence. John chuckles into her skin before pulling away, his eyes bright with mischief, and something a little darker.]

Say, now that we've broken the ice- we should have coffee sometime. Or a nightcap.

[deploy]

I'd rather light myself on fire. Seriously, give me the matches. I'll do it.

[John has done his very best not to fall in with magic-users, but it's getting harder and harder to avoid them. It's not like they fly around on brooms, and wear pointy hats. He kinda wishes they did. Sorcery is a lot more obvious in the movies.]

Kiss, or wait? I'm easy. Not too easy, mind you. That's no fun.

[It's unlikely that Kara will, but she isn't going to get into that sort of discussion right now.

She lets out a breath, instead, as she releases Sif's hand.]

I'll see you again, my lady?

[She's a little flustered and kind of feeling A Lot of Emotions and maybe needs a lie down.]

I wish I knew. She said she loved me and Winter, but she abandoned her own daughter. She said she might have never come back if the portal hadn't pulled her through. Now she wants her back. What can you even say about a woman like that?

[Ivar's still plenty mad at Letha for what she had done. Coming back had only soothed the anger in his heart a small bit.]

[Shiro couldn’t help a faint smile as well. It was a little strange, essentially treating Keith as a kid again, but at least it had amused Keith as well.

The plus side is that the barrier was gone now.]

Yeah, I guess it does. Hopefully you don’t have to do this too many times.

[ Why is he even friends with this smartass, he wonders, deliberately ignoring the many, many times he has known exactly why Poe is a good person and a good friend.

Finn heaves a dramatic sigh and looks over at him. Then, deadpan: ]

Guess it's true what they say. If you have to force it, the spark's gone.

[ who are 'they', finn, has anyone ever actually said that to you?? did you see it on a quarantine talk show? were you reading dime novels? Who Knows. ]

Since it's random magic causing this, it'd probably be whoever cast the spell that would end up furry. [But that doesn't mean that whoever kissed Alec wouldn't get zapped by a cranky warlock.] I'm Alec. Are you part of the Perimeter Guard?

Be assured that you will.

[ Well, if Kara doesn't want to ask for her help, Sif won't push. It's just not her way. Still, she had to offer. ]

[ Which is why she leans in to press a kiss to his cheek. ]

[There are likely two sides to this story, the way there is with most stories, but Ivar isn't painting a pretty picture.]

Not much that's nice. You letting her see the kid?

[wingedman]

[Apparently Stephen has some brooms in the basement; Sam tried to talk him into a Quidditch match, but some sorcerers are just no fun.]

Same here.

[Sam relaxes a little, gives him a crooked smile. Without realizing it, he'd fallen into the slight tension he'd had during his time in the service, that instinct to guard his own sexuality.]

So I guess that answers the question, huh?

[He leans in to kiss John, cupping his cheek in a callused hand. It's a good kiss - and, yeah, he totally slips him the tongue for a moment - but when he pulls back, the bubble is still there.]

Well, that's how they worked before.

[Sam looks a little indignant. Not that he regrets the kiss, he's just annoyed that it didn't work.]

[ And because Poe is Poe and he's a complete dork, he rolls over enough to grab Finn's head at a really weird angle and yank him sideways to plant another kiss on his temple.

Cue another shit-eating grin. ] Wanna get something to eat?

[ragnarsson]

I am. She wanted her back and I told her over my dead body. What if she takes it in her head to abandon her in the woods again?

[Ivar would see Letha dead by his hands before he ever let her harm Winter.]

[brightline]

Yeah same.

[A pause, and he licks his lips. He's not exactly nervous but Rey is a really, really pretty girl and this is a kind of weird situation. Stuffing his hands in his back pockets, he tilts his head and looks at her, curious as she asks if he'd actually want to try kissing.

Mostly, he's curious about whether she's asking because she hoped he would, or she's surprised he would dare ask.]

I mean yeah, if you do.

[Was she nervous about doing this? Yes. Not because of feelings or anything--okay maybe a little? who knows. Rather, it was awkward to be kissing a friend. She doesn't realize Marco is nervous too. He seems cool and collected about the entire thing so...

If he was okay with it, then it should be fine.]

I would be fine with it.

[Because, they need to get out of this predicament...and better than spending an hour together. She briefly looks down, feeling a bit stupid as she has to ask:]

Should I go first or...you?

[tempredmental]

Same to you.

[Keith gave him a small smile.]

Be careful, yeah?

[Marco actually laughs when Ivar drags him down and starts kissing his mouth - he doesn't think he'll ever really get used to it, the feeling of kissing the Viking, with the slight sting of his stubble contrasting with his warm mouth. When Ivar's lips move over his face, to his cheek and his jaw and his nose, Marco laughs softly, humming in his throat.]

Oh no. How will we tolerate it?

[Softly, he exhales it, and shifts forward, slowly settling his knees on either side of Ivar's, shifting until he's sitting in the chair with him, facing him. Tilting his head, he kisses Ivar's ear and jaw, curious.]
