Some residents may remember that back in September, a love-drunk and confusion-spell-addled newlywed mage from Gramarye Magic Research let loose some pretty little fairy lights that trapped people in the city in little invisible bubbles until they kissed (and any kind of kiss would do). Well, the same slightly-less-newlywed but no less romantically-inclined mage happens to really, really enjoy the winter season, and thinks it's totally romantic. That particular sentiment is pretty common in the Quarantine - while Hygge is the celebration of familial love, the residents of the Quarantine all agree that that family often includes partners and lovers. Besides that, the folklore of mistletoe as being representative of love and friendship is something that the Quarantine has in common with the universes many residents inhabit.

So, as the last week and a half of December rolls around, residents around the Quarantine will see the result of the resident romantic trying to share a bit of Hygge love - small, glowing sprigs of mistletoe will be floating around the Quarantine, ready to trap people up and make them share a bit of affection.

how it works

● Two or more characters walking under one of these glowing, floating sprigs will get stuck for one hour, trapped inside an invisible enclosure with an approximate three foot radius. The only options are to either wait out the hour, or to kiss! Characters will know they're meant to kiss, because part of the magic spell is the sudden and intense knowledge that they should kiss in order to break free. There is no compulsion to kiss, just the knowledge that that's how to get free. This time, instead of any kind of kiss working, there will be different types of kisses that will work to release the trapped residents depending on the color of mistleglow:

RED: MOUTH ● ORANGE: NECK ● YELLOW: CHEEK
GREEN: FOREHEAD ● BLUE: HAND ● VIOLET: BUTTERFLY

Trapped residents will not know what kind of kiss will work for each color and may have to experiment before finding the right one.

● Post up a top-level for your character with the types of kisses you're interested in threading out, and then go forth and have your character kiss (or refuse to kiss) others!
● This meme is for characters already accepted into the game to play with the mistleglow prompt from this month's test drive meme. If your character is not yet accepted into the game, please use the TDM post!
● This meme is GAME CANON, so any threads played out in this meme can be carried through into the actual canon of the game.
● Much like the TDM, threads on this meme can count for Activity Points, but not the monthly Activity Check.

[Thank goodness Finn doesn't comment on the color of Rey's cheeks. That would...that would only make her feel more embarrassed. And possibly make her cheeks pinker.

Well, she should've known something that easy wouldn't have worked. Nothing in this place was ever easy--not that life ever was, but still. This was entirely stupid.]

Yeah, of course it wouldn't be that easy.

[She looks away for a moment, trying to figure out what other kisses they could try...and how awkward they would be.]

Have you ever kissed anyone? [Maybe Finn would know more about kissing than she would.]

Hmm... if it isn't on the cheek then... perhaps a hand? Nose?

[His cheeks heat up a bit-] ...ear?

[ He reaches up, pressing one of her hands more firmly against his cheek. ]

Okay. [ A pause, and he adds a little more certainly, ] Okay. But tell me if you want to stop, alright?

[ But he doesn't wait for her response – he figures for now, she's given him the signal to move forward – and he claims her lips again. He cups her cheek with one hand. With the other, he smooths up her side again, a little more pressure to avoid ticklish feeling, and he cups her breast, thumb brushing over the bud of her nipple. ]

LAUGHS

[bottombitch]

[ Aoba's head snaps back down to stammer at Karamatsu. NOW HANG ON A MINUTE ]

N-n-non, non, NON!

[ He got so worked up over that one that he started speaking like him. This is bad. But actually, Karamatsu's logic doesn't seem wrong. Aoba's kiss was more than just chaste, it was reluctant, nervous and just went through the motions. But can you really blame him? ]

J-just how do you come by that extreme conclusion?!

<sub>[ It's such a flustered response, Karamatsu cannot help but feel a little hurt at Aoba's reluctance. Maybe it's because he's just kind of average and really has no motive in his life. He's nothing spectacular like he wants the world to believe. He's a loser, to put it frankly, and Karamatsu is well aware of that. He hates it. He really wishes he was somebody or something that somebody could adore, but he's not.. no matter how hard he tries.

Of course, that is the first thought he has other than the fact that he's not Noiz, wasn't that the issue last time? He knows Noiz is special to him but he's not really 100% certain of the kind of relationship they have. Anyway, he does know it's something closer than what they have as "soul mates" or whatever that was supposed to mean.

His ace shifts to something pensive for a moment, lips curling downward into a frown but just for a second before he tries to perk up again: ]</sub>

[ There are times when he thinks he understands Karamatsu, but then there are times when he doesn't want to - times when his antics aren't just antics and belie something too revealing to say but nevertheless there, just beneath the surface. The little signs that pointed to some unspoken shift in his friend. It didn't really matter to him, or so he thought, that Karamatsu was opening himself up to things he may have thought as disgusting before.

Aoba shouldn't ask, but... it's difficult not to, when someone you care deeply about is right there. Struggling directly in your face. Not really one to conceal his emotions particularly effectively, Karamatsu seems to be trying to imply something. Aoba finds himself finally regarding what he thinks is an elephant in the room, even when it's phrased as one of those flimsy excuses. ]

A...ah. [ He tries to think quickly. It's harder than it should be, because his mind is putting together the odd and jagged pieces together and it's forming a picture he doesn't want to see. ]

...It's because it's like in the movies, right? Th-that kind of kiss.

[ And because even that sounds painfully false, Aoba's face starts to feel a little too warm despite how the cold crawls into his clothing, his core remaining tolerably warm only because of Karamatsu. There are some things that are best left unsaid, he thinks, but it's agonizingly difficult when it's staring you in the face. Aoba drops his forehead onto his, his hair falling over his eyes. He's not sure if he wants to see his, especially when he finally asks. ]

It's not like you like me in that way... right?

[ Hana, who had a one night stand with Jason: ]

Huh.

[ She hums thoughtfully again, crossing her arms. ]

Guess I had him figured for one of those 'lone wolf' types, you know? But I guess you cracked his cold exterior or whatever. Good for you!

[ She assumes the way she melts into his kiss is answer enough, reassuring in the rhythm and heat of her lips against his. This has definitely crossed far and beyond what they’ve done together, but even as his hand reaches her breast, she doesn’t tense, doesn’t startle, and instead, she breathes a soft sound of approval into the kiss.

Her own hands shift from his face, burying fingers in his hair and knotting firmly – but not painfully – as she arches into his touch. The way she moves against him has the added benefit of making her grind down in his lap, though that’s only half-intentional at this point. ]

[ Aw, magic is cheating--at least Rin clearly thinks so, as he eyes the deft mage hand's work. ]

[ He gives her a little extra squeeze and brushes a kiss against her forehead. He almost says You're going to be a hero some day, but he stops himself. He remembers Finn's reaction to being called a hero. He doesn't want to put that pressure on Rey's shoulders, that thought in her head. That there's something she has to live up to. ] You're incredible.

[ OK, well. ]

An admittedly persuasive argument. Here.

[ He directs the spectral hand to a particular knot on the back of his tunic's lacing. ]

Undo that one, and it'll all slip off.

[Please hold he has to look very taken aback briefly.]

There's been a cheat code for this shit the whole time and I'm only finding out now?

[ He knew there were good reasonable people stuck in this Quarantine with him. People who think just shooting the damn things is worth a try. She gets a partial shrug at that, a brief grimace that says exactly, I think it sounds like a fine idea, too. ]

Simple on paper. [ But still fairly simple. ] Gets a little complicated for some people.

[ Because if that is the case she isn't in so much of a hurry that she's going to be difficult about just waiting this out. ]

[Because, surprise, that would bother him a lot less than you might think. Although actually out in the open like this isn't as much of a turn-on as semi-public, and, yeah, now this is getting derailed.]

And, c'mon, we've all seen the damn tabloid pictures. And the Youtube videos. And- do I need to go on?

[ Poe shushes her almost silently, shaking with suppressed laughter.

The steps retreat downward, taking for ever, and Poe can't help giving in to the temptation to glide his thumb over her clitoris, teasing her with his fingertips. ]

[ He absolutely can't help a quick laugh. Nothing long or loud, maybe even only barely a laugh by definition. It's like a two-second chuckle that's all air and no sound. ]

Definitely not. [ Wouldn't be much point lying about it. Maybe cadets somewhere managed sometimes, somehow, but he doubts it. And he wasn't among them if they did. ] What about you?

[ Look, she never did answer his question about having a cute boyfriend. ]

[The laughter from Finn is welcomed, it gives her something else to focus on. Okay, so he hadn't kissed anyone...

And now it's her turn to share. She looks at him with a raised eyebrow and slight laugh.]

No, never. Do you think there was anyone on Jakku I was interested in?

[Rhetorical question there because...Finn's opinion of Jakku is as low as dirt itself.]

Yeah he... was enthusiastic. [ And a flirt, which Poe doesn't usually mind but he was aggressive about it. Poe ruffles Finn's hair with his free hand. ] You spend a lot of time looking for shady people?

[ There's gasp that catches in her throat and her body jumps right back into tensing with pleasure. Almost painful after just experiencing what she had, her nerves feeling ultra sensitive. So, she turns her head and gives a little nip to his neck in silent retaliation. ]

Good.

[ Poe likes people being happy together. He stretches, good mood unbroken. ] Go drag him under some mistletoe.
